Another busy week at the city! The Charter Review committee Monday and are wrapping up their report for the council. the City Charter is reviewed every 4 years by citizens appointed by council. Once council determines what should go forward it will be on the May 2018 ballot for voter approval.
The work is continuing on the Lakeway Boulevard irrigation and landscaping upgrade. I have seen them testing the irrigation on some areas and it looks pretty good. The water used is gray water (recycled waste water) from the Lakeway MUD. The new water lines installed will withstand slightly higher water pressure and the coverage will be much better. Most of the old grass was dead because of the drought and watering issues. This upgrade should significantly improve the appearance of our boulevard!
Some of you might have heard of an accident on 620 where a white Ferrari was driving on the shoulder and hit another car. It turns out he was reported in Austin and then in Travis County and then Bee Caves and eventually Lakeway. He went through an accident scene on 620 at Randalls and hit the car shortly after that. After witness statements were collected and reviewed he was arrested and charged with reckless driving - he was assessed a $15,000 bond. I'm glad no one was hurt in the accident! It's up to the courts at this point.
The annual Public Safety day is scheduled on Saturday, October 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The City will have a booth - hope to see you there.
Work has steadily continued on the Police Station. SpawGlass will be bidding out tasks soon. We are also working on easements and particulars with utilities.
City Council will meet in regular session Monday, October 16 at 6:30. Here is that agenda. We have a STR renewal and 3 new ones - this brings the Short Term Rental licenses the maximum number of 25.
Couple of "Final Plats" on the agenda that should go smoothly and a Special Use Permit for Lakeway Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at 1205 RR 620.
I will be talking with council in an executive session about possible purchase of parkland - these discussions are not public because of the nature of real estate purchases. I expect to comment on the conversation after the executive session.
Lakeway completed and passed all of our inspections for Pao's restaurant Thursday. It's expected they will possibly open next Wednesday but no official word.
CBC met in regular session Wednesday. Here is that agenda. All regular items were passed and 3 out of 8 on site inspections failed.
I attended the Grand Opening of Lake Travis Independent Living center - 302 Medical Parkway. Great new facility and very inviting. I wish them well in this endeavor.
BDS was busy this week! Here is Director Millers report. This week saw an unusually high number of new home permits - this will slow down the review completion times temporarily.
