Life Jacket Loaner Station, Hamilton Greenbelt, Legislature and More!

Texas is living up to it's reputation on weather!  107° last week, a couple of days below 90°, a little rain (13 hundredths by my gauge) and hot for a couple of days.  Looking for a wetter, cooler pattern now in the beginning of August.  Wait a minute and it will change.  We could really use the rain in the forecast next week - we'll just have to wait and see!

Lots of good things happening - let's look at a few of them:

Andra Bennett has had a busy few weeks - this week saw the official opening of the Life Jacket Loaner Station at City Park sponsored by Colin's Hope (Alissa Magrum came to council and started the ball rolling), BeneFit Bikram Yoga, O'Neill's Pools, Stokes Sign Company and the City of Lakeway.  Here's a link to the KXAN report from yesterday.

One of the Crown Jewels of Lakeway, Hamilton Greenbelt, is finally complete!  Thanks to a generous donation from the Lakeway
Civic Corp., the entrance has been refreshed with new landscaping a picnic table and plantings along with an irrigation system as well as three more Doggi-Pot stations - many thanks LCC!  A new parking lot and restroom facility was also part of the project that the city finished a few weeks ago.  Check it out, the facility is on Lohmans Crossing just North of the Justice Center.

One of our own, Miles Standish, made the news with Pawn Stars Rick Harrison supporting a couple of charities - here's a link to the KLBJ story!

The Lakeway Players are starting auditions for the Musical "into the Woods".  Here is a link to all the info!

The new fireworks committee will meet soon to look at available options for next July 4th.  Once I get some info, I'll post their suggestions and findings.

The legislature is moving forward with it's agenda.  They continue to push to take away city powers including bill that would affect tree ordinances, taxing authority and property rights.  If you have interest in the actual bills and how they are moving go to http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/ .  I'm following HB 70, HB 7, SB 12 and HB 14.  I have contacted Representative Paul Workman and Dawn Buckingham and conveyed Lakeway's interest in the bills.  Another source is Texas Municipal League - http://www.tml.org .

I have had some questions about the new office buildings on 620 near the hospital.  Here is an artist's rendition of the finished product.

The City Building Commission will meet in regular session Thursday, August 10th - here is their agenda.  It appears there is no slow down in building houses in Lakeway!

We will have the second work session on the budget Monday, August 7th at 2:00 p.m.  Here is that agenda.

Building and Development Services has been busy too - here is a link to Ray Miller's report.

We had an significant accident at Lakeway Blvd. and 620.  This was a roll over collision - I have not seen a report but I've heard one person was transported to the hospital.  Folks, lets do our part - slow down, pay attention to our driving and put a little courtesy back into driving.  I'm sure this accident was avoidable as are most.  It could have been much worse.

I haven't received a police report yet - I will send it out when I get it.

More as I find out!  If you would like to be added to my email list (or removed) send a note to lakeway@bain.us and I'll take care of it!
