Welcome to Summer in Texas with a bang! Boy it's HOT!! Please take care with any outside activities, stay hydrated and don't over exert. We are under a heat advisory for VERY high temperatures today - actual highs around 103-105 with heat index values around 109.
If you haven't signed up yet, check out the new service from USPS called informed delivery. Here's a link. When you sign up, you will get an email every morning with the mail you should expect that day. It works well and I have found mail I didn't get and reported it.
I've heard some questions about the lake levels - yesterday lake Travis was at 673.78 - full pool is 681 so we are down about 7 feet from full. The average level for August is 664 so we are still 10 feet above normal for this time of year.
Staff has been working hard on the city finances and we had our first budget workshop Monday. Some highlights - the M&O (maintenance and operations) rate was proposed to be reduced from $0.1345 last year to $0.1272 for 2018 - a reduction of $0.0073. Our debt rate increased $0.0202 with the addition of the Police Station Bond - nearly half a cent less than predicted during the bond election. The proposed tax rate (if accepted - more workshops and meetings to come) would be $0.1741 - about $0.0129 increase. Our M&O tax rate will be the lowest since 2011. Since 2011, the city has reduced the tax rate to make up for the increase in property values therefore keeping the actual tax bill you pay the nearly same dollar amount for many years - quite an accomplishment.
A lot of numbers isn't it! Here is a link to the presentation by Steve Jones and the discussion by city council - no citizens were present to make comments.
The left turn lane from Flint Rock Rd. onto RR 620 North has been completed and was opened up Friday. There seems to be an issue with the signal recognizing a vehicle waiting in that lane triggering the light cycle. TXDOT has been contacted to correct the issue. So, if your the first car, use the middle lane and enjoy!
The Hamilton Greenbelt parking lot and entrance was also reported complete Friday - check it out and enjoy the new landscaping furnished by Lakeway Civic Corporation and Parks and Rec.
