3 Meeting Monday, Special Session is Over!, Police Report and More

I could be a weatherman!  Hot, no rain....  What else to say?  Chance of rain later in the week.

Big day Monday.  We have three meetings scheduled, a Budget Work Session at 2 p.m. that includes possibly awarding medical contracts and a Public Hearing, a Work Session on the proposed mixed development on the MUD property off Lohmans Crossing and then a regular session council meeting.  Agenda links to each of these items are included.

Then of course we also have the solar eclipse on Monday - it starts at 11:41 a.m., maximum eclipse in Austin at 1:10 p.m. and ends at 2:39 p.m.  The sun will be 72% blocked at the maximum point.  Be sure to use eye protection and stay hydrated - it should be about 100° about that time!

The City Building Commission will meet in regular session on Thursday the 24th.  Here is that agenda.

The Special Session is finally over.  The revenue caps, cell phone preemption and bathroom bill died.  There was a tree bill that passed but it will have little effect on Lakeway.  The House put some common sense into the Special Session by slowing down bills that would have had a detrimental effect on city government.  Maybe they can work on school finance and really lower our taxes!

Here is the report from BDS with their work - they seem to be busy all the time.  Here is a graph of info with previous years data.

The City has entered into an agreement with a law firm to assist with court fine an fee collections.  They will be used when the Marshall and court staff have exhausted all normal avenues.  They are compensated by a fee assessed to the defendant and there is no cost to the city.

ZAPCO held their first evening meeting this week and approved several signs plus recommended approval for 5 STR (Short Term Rentals) to council that will be heard Monday evening.  Since the legislature special session did not preempt out ordinance we still can enforce the STR regulations.

The police station building committee met with SpawGlass this week on several items including the project schedule.  We should get the guaranteed maximum price on or about August 29th.  If that is accepted they will start bidding out subcontracts in late October.
