Summer is here just in time for the July 4th celebration! It's going to be HOT! Be careful, wear sun screen and keep hydrated. Let's all enjoy the day and all the festivities. The theme this year is Patriotism on Parade - it is the 42nd official Lakeway Celebration. Look around you if you join the festivities - you will likely see many folks that gave part of their lives to enable us to live in this wonderful country. Take a moment to thank our veterans and active duty personnel - they deserve it!
Monday started early with a meeting with Gerald Daugherty about County issues in Lakeway and surrounding areas. Included were roads, traffic, their bond and park land including the sports field property at Bee Creek Rd.
Flint Rock Rd. was scheduled for asphalt this week but the rain (not complaining) delayed the work. We are close and should be substantially complete in a couple of weeks. We have also made progress on the additional left turn lane at RR 620. I expect completion in a few weeks. Please be patient with the workers, it will be worth the delays.
Mayor Pro Tem Massa attended the CAPCOG "Clean Air Coalition Meeting" on Wednesday. He will represent us on this committee for the next year. They are looking at funding issues to continue their work. More on that soon. Here is a link to more info.
I attended the public meeting of the Travis County Citizens Bond Advisory Committee Thursday evening. There was a substantial turn out - estimates of 250-300 folks that talked about everything from parks to roads to safety conditions. LTYA had a large presence to support the proposed bond money for a sports park on Bee Creek Rd. on the property purchased by Lakeway. It was a good meeting and lots opinions were expressed.
Next week will be the last morning meeting of ZAPCO. Here is their agenda.
Staff is working hard on the budget for next year. We will be starting public work sessions and public meetings soon. I will publish the finalized schedule soon.
Here is a link to the weeks BDS report from Director Ray Miller. They had a busy week too!
From the Chief:
LPD Officers conducted 142 traffic stops, responded to 15 alarm calls, responded to 16 animal calls, responded to 12 collisions, answered 11 suspicious circumstances calls and handled 82 other types of calls for service for a total of 278.
Routine traffic stops resulted in the following charges, Lakeway Warrant X 1, Driving while License Suspended X 1, Possession of Marijuana X 1, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia X 5.
Detectives were called out to the 300 block of RR620 South in reference to a Burglary of a Business (New Freedom Vapor). According to patrol officers, they responded to the business following an alarm activation and found a side window shattered. Detectives responded to the scene and processed several pieces of evidence. The case remains active.
Detectives were assigned to investigate a report of Credit Card Abuse after the victim discovered multiple unauthorized charges on her credit card. Detectives determine the charges were made at businesses in CA. Detectives ultimately transferred the case to the Santa Rosa Police Department for further investigation.

That's all for today - I hope to see a crowd at the July 4th celebration on Tuesday! As always, if you would like to be added (or removed) from the blog list, send a note to lakeway@bain.us and I'll take care of it.
