Assistant City Manager, Ballot, TxDOT, Open Houses and More!

Where did the week go?  Is it Winter again?  All questions I really can't answer.  But I can tell you what went on at City Hall this week!

It has been a busy couple of weeks.  Steve Jones and I have been involved in interviews for our Assistant City Manager position and also two Lieutenants for the Police Force.  There were 93 applications for the ACM.  We have made a decision on the Assistant City Manger, please congratulate Julie Oakley on her promotion!

We have also moved forward on the new Lieutenants positions and will make an announcement soon.

We had the drawing for position on the ballot for Council Members Friday - 1.  Tiffany McMillan, 2.  Ron Massa, 3.  Bridge Bertram.  We also have the date for the "Meet the Candidates" forum - it will be Thursday, April 13th at 6:00 p.m. at the Lakeway Activity Center.  Come join us and hear what they say about the issues.

Steve and I have a meeting with TxDOT next week to talk about issues on RR 620, specifically turn enhancements at Murfin and Bella Montagna.  We are also going to discuss the left turn at RR 620 and Main (HEB).  We will also talk about signal timing.  More on that next week.

We have scheduled dates for Police Station Open Houses at the Activity Center.  They are March 27, April 6 and April 20.  Please plan a date to come hear the findings and plans after almost 2 years of work by the committee.

City Council met Tuesday - here was the agenda.  Financially the City is doing well and on budget.  We passed an ordinance to allow the PD to enforce traffic laws on the private roads in The Pinnacle at North Lakeway and the Overlook at North Lakeway subdivisions.

We awarded the contract for solid waste collection to Waste Connections (current provider) and Mr. Jones will negotiate the final terms of the contract.  their pricing was about 25% below the other providers.

A civil suit was approved to enforce our sigh ordinance at the Harbor at Lakeway.

A Charter Review Committee has been selected and will start meeting in the next few weeks.  This is a normal occurrence and is required by the Charter every few years.  I appreciate the volunteers that have agreed to help us with this task!

The Citywide Indoor Garage Sale is scheduled for March 4, here is a link to more information.

Clarence Coins, David Cummings, Mike Magor, Rhett O'Hara
Seated - Annette Brown, Hope Carew, Linda Dobbs, Alle Bird, Lauren Linn
The Lakeway Players are setting up for another production near the end of March.  Here is a link to more information on the show.

Interested in Lakeway's History?  The next Heritage Trail Tour is on April 7th.  9:15, 11:15, 1:15 from the Heritage Center.  Call 512-608-9533 or email history@lakeway-tx.gov.  Be sure to include name, phone number, email address and number of seats desired + time.

We have an important election coming up in May!  Not only electing 2 Council Members but also a Bond Election.  Please think about your decisions, we need folks on Council that will take the time to look at ALL of the City's issues and make decisions that are good for the City of Lakeway.

I have heard folks say "Why do we need a police station?  We don't have any crime in Lakeway."  A couple of thoughts - We have grown to about 15,000 population and have 50,000 cars go through the middle of our city every day.  Maybe the reason we don't have or see a lot of crime is because of the great and capable police force we have that makes sure folks see them.  A couple of years ago the Whataburger was robbed in the middle of the night.  When the robbers were caught, one remarked to the other - I told you we should stay away from Lakeway- we should have stuck with Austin.  Think about it!

That's all for today, I really appreciate the support!  More as I find out.

If yo would like to be added to my email list, send a note to lakeway@bain.us and I'll get you added.
