National Police Week, CAMPO, Justice Center and More!

Another week, more rain, the Lakes are full and all is good in the neighborhood!  Lots of critters running around, with the mild winter bugs and things are out in force.  Be careful where you step and don't put your hand in places you can't see!  Lakeway Regional Medical will be hosting a snake bite seminar on Thursday, May 19 - it's timely and good information!  Their Women's Advisory Council made the news this week also - here's a link to the article.

Next week (May15-21) is National Police Week! The Lakeway Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association would like for all the citizens of Lakeway to join in the national movement by displaying a blue light in front of your home - I have mine!  Flags will also be flown at Half Staff for Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week.  Please join in and support our GREAT Police force!

The Lakeway Arts Committee is bringing back Kiyoshi Tamagawa for an encore concert at the Activity Center May 22 at 4 p.m.  Admission is free and he is an outstanding performer!  Here is a link to more info.

The Lake Travis Community Library is also hosting several events in the near future - here is a link to their informational newsletter!

The Oaks at Lakeway has posted a new video on their website - great video and shows a lot you can's see from the ground - here's a link -take a look and see what you think!

*****CAMPO UPDATE*****

The Monday meeting of CAMPO was interesting to say the least.  One item on the agenda approved the paying agent for CAMPO to move from Austin to Williamson County - this will see some savings due to the County handling it, however most of the savings are used up with increased costs of floor space rental - it appears Austin wanted the space CAMPO had at their facility so the move was inevitable.

The second item of great interest was about the Western Travis County sub regional transportation study.  We delayed the start of that study until the 620 study completed so we could use some of TxDOT's data, now County Judge Eckhardt is requesting yet another delay because of Travis County's Land, Water & Transportation Plan.  Never heard of it?  That's because we were never asked for input - not much in Western Travis County - lots going on on the East side of the County.

We intend to talk more about it next month - this study should have been done 25 years ago - it would have allowed right of way to be purchased so roads could be built to handle the overwhelming traffic from unfettered growth in the area - more to come.

The Justice Center Advisory Committee met Thursday for what may be the last time.  They have narrowed the scope and the Chairman plans to present the finding to the Council in June.

We are into the second round of interviews for the BDS Director position - we have what appears to be several great applicants and I hope this position will be filled in the next few months.

Council will meet Monday evening in regular session.  We will say goodbye to two GREAT council members, Sandy Cox and Dave Taylor,  and welcome two new ones - I'm looking forward to working with Jean Hennigan and Keith Trecker!  Here is a link to the agenda and backup materials.

From the Chief:
Routine traffic stops resulted in the following charges being filed; Out of Jurisdiction Warrant X 5, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia X 2, driving while License Suspended X 3 and Driving while Intoxicated X 1.

Officers responded to a RR 620 S. business in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival officers learned that two subjects had been involved in a verbal argument. The manager of the business requested that we have the subjects leave for the evening, no charges were filed.

Officers responded to a RR 620 S. business in reference to a criminal mischief call.  Upon arrival officers learned that a person wanted to report that a tire was slashed on their vehicle while they were shopping, this case is being investigated.

Officers were called to the police department lobby, for a burglary of a vehicle report.  The complainant advised that while at a Lakeway Marina eating at the restaurant their laptop computer was taken from their vehicle, this case is being investigated.

Officers responded to a RR 620 S. restaurant in reference to a violation of a protective order.  Upon arrival officers found a subject in violation of a protective order; the subject was arrested and transported to Travis County Jail.

Officers were called to a Lakeway Marina in reference to subjects trespassing on a boat.  Upon arrival it was learned that three persons were on a boat that didn’t belong to them. The subjects were located and three trespass warnings were issued.  One subject was arrested for an outstanding out of jurisdiction warrant.

Last Friday night Chief Radford, Captain Crowder, Animal Protection Officer Andrea Greig, Officer Ricky Gavit and Detective Steve Howell helped serve spaghetti at the Lions Club Spaghetti dinner. It was a very nice event and well attended. We were happy to be a part of this event and to support the Lions Club of Lakeway!

LPD Officers are still actively engaged in our “Hands Free” ordinance enforcement program.  Don’t Text or use your cell phone while you drive, It can wait!

Next week is National Police Week! The men and women of LPD are honored to serve and appreciate the community for their support!

That's all for now - enjoy the weekend and maybe some rain!  More as I find out!
