Memorial Day Service, Schlolarships, Recycle Event and More!

Can you believe it?  It's already Memorial Day weekend.  If you weren't able to attend the Memorial Day Service Friday at the Emmaus Church you missed a wonderful tribute to our troops that make life as we know it possible!  

I was honored to present 4 scholarships to students at LTHS this week that Pogressive Waste Solutions fund as part of our current contract with them.  From left, Avery Smith, Kathryn Werdenberg, Mayor Joe Bain, Josiah Snowden and Kyle Rutherford.  Each student was recognized with a $1000 scholarship for his or her efforts.  Congratulations!

Plans well underway for City of Lakeway 4th of July Parade.  Contact paradechair@lakeway-tx.gov for entry form and to participate with your family, school or scout group.  2016 theme: Ignite the Spirit of America.

The Lakeway Art's Committee is calling for local artists to display their works in the second annual "Cool Arts Party"!  Register at the Lakeway Activity Center by June 6 - here is a link to more info.

Lakeway Regional Medical Center has some new technology going into their operating rooms - here's a link to all the info.

The Recycling Center will host a June 1st collection event.  Bring those unwanted weed killers, old paint cans, and cleaning products to the household waste collection event at the Lake Travis Regional Re-Use and Recycling Center from 9 a.m.-noon June 1.  Here's a link to more information.

At the City Hall we are working hard on our budget - it's always a busy time and staff is getting the data together for our upcoming budget sessions.

ZAPCO will meet next Wednesday at 9:10 a.m. Dave Taylor will lead the group as Chairman - it looks like there is very little on the agenda - here is a link.

The street light pole at Lohmans and Lakeway Blvd. was replaced last week.  I'm glad to get that done.

The Lakeway Swim Center will be open for the holiday weekend - Saturday 12-8pm, Sunday 12-6pm and Monday 12-8pm.  The Swim Center will open full-time on Saturday June 4th.

The Courts were busy - Violations filed from May 1 – 26, 2016: state law 75, traffic 228, city ordinance 220 (193 hand-held mobile communication device) and 1 parking.  Court arrest report for this week: 4 defendants arrested by the City Marshal, 1 arrest from El Paso County with 2 warrants, 1 arrest by Travis County Parks with 3 warrants, 1 arrest by Bee Cave PD with 3 warrants and 1 arrest by Rollingwood PD with 2 warrants. 

The 5/27/2016 docket included 57 defendants contesting 69 cases, 53 scheduled for arraignment, 23 to Show Cause, 2 cases on a Pre-Trial hearing and 1 for a Trial by Judge.

From the Chief:
This week officers conducted 188 traffic stops; 11 animal related calls; 11 welfare checks; responded to 8 reckless driving calls; investigated 8 suspicious vehicles/persons calls; responded to 7 911 hang-ups; answered 7 alarm calls; handled 7 traffic hazards; investigated 6 crashes, and managed 70 other types of calls resulting in a total of 329 police calls for service for this week. 

Routine traffic stops resulted in the following charges/arrests; Out of Jurisdiction Warrant X 1, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia X 6, Possession of a Controlled Substance X 3, and Driving while Intoxicated X 4.  

Officers responded to a Nautilus address in reference to a disturbance call.  Upon arrival a father and son were engaged in an argument, they were separated and no charges were filed at this time. 

Officers responded to a Betula Drive address in reference to a criminal mischief.  Subjects were located that had damaged the front door of the residence, the homeowner declined to prosecute, no charges were filed. 

Officers responded to Lakeway Centre Court in reference to a disturbance.  Upon arrival officers found a father attempting to restrain his daughter whom was in need of a mental health evaluation, the daughter was transported by EMS to Lakeway Regional Medical Center for treatment. 

Officers responded to 104 Cross Creek in reference to a prior disturbance. After taking a statement from one person involved, the officers went to a residence on Mooring Circle and arrested the other person involved in the disturbance for assault family violence. The subject was transported to Travis County Jail. 

Officers responded to a World of Tennis address in reference to a disturbance.  Upon arrival officers learned that a father and adult son were having an argument. The son was asked to leave and no charges were filed in this case. 

While on a traffic stop an officer was searching a vehicle for narcotics, he was accidently stuck in the arm with a used syringe. The occupants were charged with possession of a controlled substance; the officer was treated at a medical facility and will undergo further testing in coming weeks.
