Council Meeting, Roads, NNO, Recycling Center Event and More!

Hi Folks!  It appears that Summer is back - I sure enjoyed those two cool, dry days.  Don't worry, soon we will be wishing for a warm dry day.....

Council will meet in regular session Monday evening, here is the agenda.  It appears to be fairly benign, two Proclamations and the third hearing on the budget and tax rate.  Here is a link to backup material.

Staff is taking a good look at the Short Term Rental ordinance.  They are getting some complaints from residents around the rentals.  This type of rental (less than 6 months) is actually against HOA restrictions in Rough Hollow and the Highlands - they are actively working to stop the practice on those they have found.
NN Flintrock Road construction is on track to start later on this year.  Residents along the road will likely experience some noise and work impact while construction is ongoing - when done it should be much safer and hopefully quieter!

Deputy City Manager Chessie Zimmerman and I met with the Cities of Lago Vista and Jonestown as part of our CAMPO duties this week.  We have been working to visit and talk to all of the "Small Cities" we represent.  We are also continuing on with efforts to improve our traffic issues in the area and especially 620.

Staff is also working to strengthen the Solicitation Ordinance.  The hail storm and roofers uncovered some issues we would like to address.  Be sure to get your name on the "No Solicitation" list with the City and let them know if a solicitor is not following the rules.

We have had some calls about high water bills - it seems isolated and although the City does not supply water or sewer service (all done by local MUD's) Mr. Jones and I will be discussing the issues with area MUD's.

Work is continuing with the purchase of the tennis courts from Clubcorp.  We have a draft purchase agreement and are working through some easement and parking issues.

HEB is working hard to find "Partners" to work at the new store - I'm hearing they need 320 and have a little more than 150.  If your interested, they are hiring at the Heritage Center in Lakeway.  Wimberly's new HEB opened Friday and there were 200 folks waiting to get in a 6 AM?  Here's a link to a picture of the line!

CBC will meet in regular session on Thursday at 9 AM.  Here is a link to that agenda.

Don't forget, National Night Out is coming up on October 6th.  Sign up and get your block together, meet your neighbors and register with the Police and an officer will come by to talk about your issues and answer questions.  Here's a link to more information.

The Lake Travis Reuse and Recycling Center's next event will be on September 23rd.  Here is a link to more information!

The AKA Vocal Show Group will be putting on The Best of the '60s and '70s on September 25th and 26th at the Activity Center - tickets are $15.  Call 512-261-1010 to order your tickets today!

From Steve Jones:
Travis County recently paved some streets in the Lake Oaks Estates area under its substandard roads program.  The program was funded by a community development block grant from the federal government.  The subdivision, located in Lakeway’s ETJ, had dirt roads from its inception.  This effort by Travis County will greatly improve the living conditions of the residents.

The Travis County Commissioners Court is scheduled to approve additional funding for the Flint Rock Road safety improvement project and award it to Smith Contracting Company.  The project is still on schedule to start construction this fall.  Additional funding is requested to cover contingencies comfortably; the base bid is within budget.

Chessie met with developers to discuss several potential projects this week, including a restaurant at the Oaks, a dog boarding and training business, and a gas station and convenience store.

As the Travis County small cities representative on the CAMPO Transportation Policy Board, Mayor Bain has been meeting with staff and officials from small cities all over the county to learn about their transportation issues.  This week, he and Chessie met with the mayor and city manager of Jonestown, and with the mayor pro tem, city manager, and development services director from Lago Vista.  Chessie also traveled to Elgin to meet with the community development director and learn about recent transportation projects and current challenges in the eastern part of the CAMPO region.

Our court reports that the following violations were filed this week: 11 State Law, 87 Traffic, 17 City Ordinance, and 1 Parking Violation.  Thirty-two violations were dismissed with Defensive Driving, eight Dismissals after Deferred Disposition, 22 Insurance Violations dismissed, and 29 Warrants were cleared by Marshal Johnson with two defendants arrested and transported to Central Booking with Judge Madison as magistrate at the jail.
