Council, Signals, Steve's Report and More!

Good Morning!  Another Great Lakeway Day - Fall is trying to crowd out Summer but is having to work at it.  Hopefully we will get a little rain soon!

As far as traffic, a couple of updates.  They have been working on the signal at Lohmans and 620 - they have lengthened the time Eastbound on Lohmans and it appears to be better.  We are continuing to work with TxDOT to improve safety at this intersection.  We are also nearing completion of the 620 study.  I expect within a month we will have a plan to improve 620 from at least Mansfield Dam to Hwy 71 in Bee Cave.  We have a joint meeting of both study groups next month.  I'm hearing good rumors that TxDOT is going to continue with the engineering and environmental work on the project.  If this is the case the project will move forward much faster than originally expected - more on that as I find out!

The signal at HEB will be turned on sooner than expected - looks like the week of October 5th.  Flash for a week then the signal will be in operation.

Ribbon Cutting of the Lake Travis ISD High School Annex is Monday at 6:30 - they have converted the old Middle School back to High School use after the Middle School moved to Bee Creek Road.

City Council will meet Monday afternoon at 2:00 PM in Special Session to adopt the budget and tax rate.  Here is that agenda

From Steve Jones:
The RM 620 Corridor Study Group met this week to finalize plans for the Lakeway section of the project.  The group will have a joint meeting with the Bee Cave group next month to share plans and coordinate efforts.  It appears that we are the first groups to finalize our respective sections of the project.  TxDOT will work on the northern sections of the project (from Lakeway to SH 183) in the coming months and plans to finish the entire project early next year.

Solid Waste Department reports that the Lake Travis Reuse & Recycling Center partnership held a collection event Wednesday.  The event was successful with 123 vehicles bringing various household products to be properly disposed of or recycled.  City employees participated in various functions at the center.  The plan is to hold quarterly events much like the event held this week throughout fiscal year 2016.

TxDOT is still working on the traffic signal at Lohmans and 620.  It is working better, but they are monitoring it for more adjustments.

Lakeway Police Department invites the public to participate in the popular Prescription Drug Take-Back Day initiative from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lakeway Justice Center, 104 Cross Creek.  This event will mark the seventh Take-Back Day for Lakeway Police Department, which is hosting the event in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration.  See the city website for more information.

TxDOT reported that the signal at HEB will turned on sooner than expected.  They plan to activate it the week of October 5.  It will be in flash mode for about one week before it becomes fully operational.

The Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce is seeking applicants for its board of directors.  See the attached email for details.

Public Works reported that our contractor started work on the sub-surface irrigation installation on Lohmans Crossing this week.  The project should be complete by Wednesday of next week.  Public Works employees started removing dead cedar trees from the medians of Lakeway Blvd.  And, several of their employees helped out at the re-use and recycle center on Wednesday morning.

HR reports that we have job postings for Police Officer I, Police Dispatcher, Aquatic Programs Coordinator, and an Accounting Specialist.  The job postings are on our website at http://www.lakeway-tx.gov/jobs.aspx

Chessie attended the monthly meeting of the CAMPO Technical Advisory Committee.  The group reviewed a subcommittee's recommendation for the current round of funding available through the Transportation Alternatives Program, and voted to forward the recommendation the Transportation Policy Board for adoption.  Chessie also met with a commercial property broker to discuss the city's land use preference for the undeveloped land owned by Lakeway MUD.
