Water, Fire and More!

Good Day!  It's Sunday and I realized I hadn't done the blog yet so here goes!

Of course, the big news is the rain in Texas.  Please keep the folks both South and East of us in your prayers - the loss of life, flooding and devastation has been overwhelming.  It seems to be part of life here especially in Central Texas.  All of our lives have been touched in some way.

Lake Travis is still on the rise and currently is at 665.76 - about 4 feet below normal for this time of year.  It's come up over 30 feet in May and is still rising.

Even with the copious amounts of rain over the Memorial Day Holiday and after, it seems the City's drainage system has worked fairly well.  We have a few places we will be working on, but overall we are ok.

Hopefully LCRA will get their act together and will embrace the proposed new rules that will keep more water in the Highland Lakes.  Steve Jones and I went to a "Water Forum" in Austin Wednesday, LCRA is still touting the reservior  downstream as a savior to our water.  Remember, we pay $175 per acre foot for non-interruptible water when the irrigator's are paying less than $7 an acre foot.  I'm not sure how that makes sense economically.

There was a fire in the 300 Block of Duck Lake Drive on 5-27-2015.  There were no injuries and the garage fire was controlled before it significantly damaged the rest of the home.  Thanks to R. Stevens for the photo and for the Fire Departments work!

The City's New manager for BDS resigned after one day.  We are disappointed and are starting over on the process of filling this position.  We are running about 4 weeks behind on permits mainly because of the significant requests from hail damage.  Staff is getting a handle on it as fast as they can and I really appreciate their hard work.

I attended the groundbreaking for "High 5" last week.  It will be a combination bowling alley, laser tag and game establishment at the North end of the Oaks development.  It looks like a great idea and they are planning to open at the end of the year.

ZAPCO will be meeting in regular session on Wednesday the 3rd of June at 9:10 AM.  Here is a link to the agenda.

Lots of new stuff going on at the Activity Center - here is a link to information on the web site.

If your interested in the schedule of City Boards and Commissions and Committees here is a link to their days and locations.  I would suggest that you look at the web site for agenda and meeting times - some do not meet regularly.

Thanks for reading the blog!  If you would like to be added or removed from the email list send a note to lakeway@bain.us and I'll get you fixed up.

More as I find out!

  1. Are you for or against the toll road that was going to cut through the nature preserve? What was the logic behind that? What was the perceived benefit of a road that goes from Cedar Park to Buda?

  2. I am for finding out what will improve our traffic issues along 620, 360 and Hwy 71. The benefit of that type of road is capacity - move the thru traffic and let the local traffic have 620. I am for improvement and regional planning that will help avoid gridlock on our roads. Thanks for the interest.
