More Debris, Roofers, Steve's Report, Police

Good Morning!  Progressive is working to pick up the debris from the recent storm, still a lot to get done.  Don't delay, we will soon go back to the standard pick ups!

Roofers are here from everywhere - be careful!  They are required by city code to have a solicitation permit if they contact you at your home.  We have had 147 applications for solicitation permits - 20 have been denied.  Ask to see the permits!  Just a word of advice - if you hire a company here from another state and a year from now have an issue with your roof, do you think they will come back and fix it?  Go local and be sure.

I have had a question about when we will have a Hazardous Waste Disposal day - we are nearing that time - there is a minimal test event in early June, we will have a full event soon after that.  There was also a question about another drug take back day, when I get that information, I will publish the date.

From Steve Jones:
As of 5:00 pm on April 30, the city had received 147 applications to roofing companies for solicitations.  Thus far, 94 applications have been approved and 20 have been denied.  There are numerous companies in town that do not comply with the Lakeway Municipal Code.  We continue to monitor for evidence of noncompliance, including illegal signage and evidence of work where no permit is displayed.

For those who were not there, city council members and staff held an open house meeting Thursday evening to discuss the city’s draft concept for a mixed-use development with an arts district.  The informational meeting, held at the Lakeway Activity Center, was attended by an estimated 100 area residents.  Materials from the meeting will be available on the city’s web site next week.

As of yesterday, 309 early votes had been cast at the Lakeway Randal’s in our general election.  There were probably some Lakeway votes cast at other voting centers throughout the county, but the county clerk does not publish number.

We had a very good staff meeting this week on the police budget for next year.  The police department has done a great job of composing metrics for the department that will make decisions regarding their budget for next much easier to evaluate.  We will present them to you at one of our upcoming budget work sessions.  I think you will be impressed.

We had another good month for the court with Marshal Johnson’s help.  The court issued 139 new warrants and cleared 151.  This week, Marshal Johnson worked the field twice clearing 20 active warrants.
