What's Coming Up, Council, Debris Pick Up and More!

Another week gone - where does the time go?  A little more rain, Lake Travis is up to 629.37 feet (681 is full) and enough rain to keep the lawn green! Let's see what went on last week.

The Lakeway Art's Committee will sponsor a Spring Fine Arts Show from 1-5 PM May 16th at the Lakeway Activity Center - mark your calendars and see what local artists produce right here in our home town!  Here's more information if you want to attend or participate!

Last weeks storm left a LOT of debris and the clean up is under way.  Normally the garbage service picks up 6 bags in addition to the regular cans and recycle - Progressive has stepped up and is working with the City to get the leaves picked up.  Extra trucks were put on routes along with special pick ups to get the leaves under control.  As of Friday over 40 cubic yards of refuse had been collected and the pick ups will continue.  Get the bags out as soon as possible, we will be back to normal pick up rules soon.  Here's more info!

There will be an Open House on the "Arts District" Concept Plan at the Activity Center on April 30th from 6 to 8 PM.  There will be displays on the City's ideas for development of the 80 to 130 acres between the "Oaks" and Lohmans Crossing Road.  The City has no interest in purchasing any of this property, and is simply looking at a possible low density plan for development.  Staff and some elected officials will be there to discuss and hear comments.  Here's more information

We are getting closer to having a local recycle center - the primary building is complete and employees have gone through training at the City of Austin's facility.  The County will be paving the short piece of road for access and is interested in joining in to help with the effort.  Should be ready for our first recycle day in a month or two.

Monday was City Council night - here is a link for that agenda.  We had a presentation from County Commissioner Gerald Daugherty regarding the Travis County Civil and Family Courthouse Project.

Several items (7, 8, 9, 10) had to do with right of ways for the Flint rock Road project and were passed without issue.

Item 11 adopted a new ordinance prohibiting the use of "Hand-held Mobile Communication Devices" while operating a motor vehicle or bicycle.  This was passed unanimously after some discussion. This will save lives and was supported by the police and courts.  The Ordinance will go into effect July 1, 2015.

Item 12 approved a resolution approving a settlement with the City and Recovery Ways Austin.  I will post more on this once and if the settlement is done.

From Steve Jones:
Last Tuesday, Judge Madison established a new protocol for issuing arrest warrants.  This new protocol will help the court initiate a paperless court, or “less paper” court, by utilizing the software we currently have.  In the near future, the court will have the ability to use a signature pad, similar to those used in retail stores, further reducing the need for paper.

Chessie met with several developers this week regarding potential projects in the area.  Locations that were discussed include a 23-acre tract on Flint Rock Road, the tract in front of Lake Travis Middle School on Bee Creek Road, and the property on the northwest corner of Debba Drive and RM 620.  Chessie also met with representatives from AT&T regarding a right-of-way issue on Lohmans Crossing.

Chessie also attended the monthly CAMPO Technical Advisory Committee meeting.  The TAC voted to recommend adoption of the current draft of the 2040 Regional Transportation Plan.  The TAC also took a first look at CAMPO's proposed program of work for the upcoming fiscal year, which includes a $750,000 allocation for transportation studies in western Travis County and southwestern Williamson County.
