Election Results, Fine Arts and More!

Good Morning!  the big news of this week is the election of course!  Here is a link to the final vote totals as of last night - the results will be considered "Unofficial" until certification.  Jim Powell, Ron Massa and Bridge Bertram were the winners and will have a seat on the City Council.  They will take office at the next Council Meeting on May 18th.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the candidates for their participation in the election process - I am looking forward to working with all of them in the upcoming year!  Remember, these folks work hard to keep our City the wonderful place to live that we all love.  They all work for free - no compensation.  If you see them, please thank them for their hard work!

Don't forget, Lakeway has adopted a "hands free" ordinance that prohibits use of electronic equipment while driving.  The ordinance will take effect on July 1st so be prepared!

Here is a link to a list of Fine Arts Objects acquired since the Committee's inception.  Take a look!

I've had inquires about the "Drug Take Back" program - the DEA is no longer doing the program, so the police is not able to offer the program.  Chief Radford tells me that some pharmacies will now accept and dispose of medications - I'm not sure which ones.  More as I investigate!

You have probably been bombarded with roofers after the hail storm - I know I have.  The roofers are required to get solicitation permits and are given the "no call" list.  Ask to see their permit.  We also have many companies that are not following the rules so be careful.  Permits are required for a re-roof - have been for years and years.  This insures you are getting a quality job.  Remember, if you hire someone from Utah to do your roof, do yo think they will send someone down if you have a problem?  Call your insurance agent - they should have a list of recommended contractors.

The City is still picking up leaves and trash from the storm - it has been a massive undertaking!  Progressive and City Staff including Deputy City Manager Chessie Zimmerman and Doris Cline were seen out loading leaves in a truck last week - wish I had a picture of that!

Lieutenant General Jeff Howell will speak at the Memorial Day Service this year - it will be held on Friday May 22 at the Emmaus Catholic Parish, 1718 Lahmans Crossing Rd. at 11:00 AM.  Mark your calendar, it was moved to Friday because of scheduling issues!  Here's a link to more information.

CBC meets May 14th at 9AM in Council Chambers - here is that agenda.

From the Chief:
PATROL:
Routine traffic stops resulted in the following charges:
o Possession of Drug Paraphernalia X7
o Possession of a Controlled Substance X 1
o Out of Jurisdiction Warrant X 1
1. Officers responded to Rocky Coast Dr. in reference to a missing child. After a search of the residence the child was located hiding in the residence.
2. Officers responded to a few family disturbance calls this week. No charges were filed in reference to either call.
3. Officers responded to a Missing Persons call on Lombardia. Officers were told a 4 year old male was missing from the grandparents property. The investigation revealed that the child had been picked up by his mother who neglected to inform the grandparents.

OPERATIONS:
Operations Division researched and developed a comprehensive police officer pay scale as part of the LPD budget process.
The Operations Division hosted a meeting with Bee Cave PD to discuss developing a Child Abduction Response Team (CART).

The Operations Division instructed four 5th grade classes at Lake Pointe Elementary on the effects and consequences of using alcohol, tobacco, and  drugs.  This is part of the ATOD program which is done in cooperation with the Lake Travis Independent School District.

From Chessie:
It’s been a busy week internally dealing with roofing companies and leaf pick-up, but there is not much to report.

You may know that, after realizing that some areas of the city were still waiting to have bagged leaves picked up, city staff pitched in to help finish the job. Progressive reports that they picked up about 60.5 tons of leaves this week, in addition to the 50 tons from last week. Public Works staff picked up an additional 20 dump-truck loads, and Solid Waste Account Manager Doris Cline helped load a pick-up too! Pictures of the leaf pile at the public works facility are attached.

That's all for now - thanks again for all the support!  Email me at lakeway@bain.us if you would like to be added to my email list!

  1. Ask the roofing contractors not to place their solicitations in our mail box. My insurance company placed my insurance checks in my mail box and they are missing.
