Upcoming Events, Vote Totals, Cool Weather and Rain on the Way!

Big week - we have over 5,000 votes cast in early voting as of Friday morning!  

Thursday October 30th, Rough Hollow Lakeway made a donation of land to the Lake Travis Independent School District for another school for our children!  Thanks to their generosity, the future of Lakeway's kids looks all the brighter!

Pedernales Electric is working on overhead power lines in teh Lakeway area  They say some residents may be affected by outages as they update and clear facilities.  Here's a link to more info.

ZAPCO will meet in regular session next week on Wednesday at 9:10AM.  Here is that agenda.  Looks like sign work next week!

Breakfast with Santa is coming up - have I mentioned that we have the real Santa Claus and his wife in Lakeway?  It will be on December 13th at 8:30 and 10:30am - it is always a sell out.  Activity Center members can get their tickets November 10-14 - get there early!  General Public can get tickets starting November 17.

There are a few tickets available for the musical White Christmas performance by the Lakeway Players on Thursday, Friday & Saturday, November 6, 7 & 8.  Tickets are $20.  You are welcome to BYOB and snacks, there will be set ups available.  Doors open at 6:30pm, curtain call 7:30pm.  This adaption is from the book by David Ives and Paul Blake and features Irving Berlin songs Blue Skies, I love a Piano, How deep is the Ocean, Count your Blessing and the favorite White Christmas.  Support Community Theater and call today 512-261-1010 for tickets with your MC, Visa, American Express or Discover.

Lakeway's "Friends of the Parks" is looking for a few good people!  They need 84 volunteers to spread 57 pounds of native wildflower seeds at their workday November 8th.  Detailed info can be  found at their website at http://www.lakewayfop.org/

Chessie met with Bob Laws to discuss proposed zoning for his property located behind the Valero station on RR 620.  Mr. Laws’ property was annexed a few years ago, but has not yet been zoned.  Existing uses include C-2 type buildings with multiple tenants, and residential structures.

Mayor DeOme, Chessie, and I met with John Herron of The Nature Conservancy and Bob Ayres of Shield Ranch.  They are concerned about the impact of future roadway development and are interested in being involved in transportation planning efforts going forward.

Mayor DeOme, Joe Bain, Dwight Haley, Chessie, and I met with Rob Spillar, PE, Director, and Gordon Derr, City of Austin Department of Transportation, to discuss CAMPO’s 2040 Plan and regional transportation planning.

The Zoning Commission will meet in regular session next Wednesday morning and make determinations on temporary directional signage relating to the 2015 Parade of Homes event, a sign plan for Lakeway Medical Village, and a sign variance to allow project development signs, at the Oaks at Lakeway development, that exceed the maximum area and height allowances.

BDS is talking to a company that that is considering construction of an independent living facility at Medical Village. 

The BDS offices won today’s Halloween decorating contest.  Troy Anderson said, “It was great to see our team pull together to create the best display of holiday spirit – Go Team!”

Wendy Askey reports, “We currently have a job posting for City Marshal in Court department, Operator I in Parks department, Accountant in Finance department and a Police Officer I.  The job postings are on our website at www.cityoflakeway.gov and Texas Municipal League’s career center at www.tml.org.” 

The Police Department reported:

  • Officers assisted TCSO with a warrant service on Susan Dr.  The suspect fled from the officers and a foot pursuit followed.  During the foot pursuit, an LPD officer fell and sustained a cut and abrasions to his hands.  The suspect is not currently in custody.
  • Officers did a Peace Officer Emergency Commitment on a subject after he attempted suicide by overdose.
  • Officers took a report of a burglary of vehicle on Glen Heather.  A laptop was reported stolen from an unlocked car.
  • Officers responded to a family disturbance in which a juvenile had assaulted her mother and another woman.  The juvenile was arrested for assault family violence.
  • A door was reported stolen from a home under construction on Bonaire Court.  There was no forced entry and the home was not secure.
  • Traffic stops during the week led to the following charges being filed:
    • A Warrant arrest
    • Driving while license invalid X 2
    • Possession of drug paraphernalia X 2
    • Possession of marijuana (charge held)
  • A trailer was reported stolen from a residence on Lakeway Blvd.  The trailer was missing for six weeks before being reported as stolen.
  • Officers responded to a physical altercation between three men in the parking lot of a local bar.  No charges have been filed at this time.
  • Detective Proctor is issuing a warrant for a suspect who displayed a handgun during a disturbance at a local gas station.
  • Detectives Howell and Proctor have forwarded information and evidence to the U.S. Secret Service in reference to counterfeit bills that were passed at two local restaurants.  Suspects were charged in one case, more charges are expected in the future.
  • Detective Howell reports that Deer Trapping was conducted on October 28 with six (6) deer being captured.
  • LPD hosted the 2nd Annual Fright Fest event along with staff at LRMC.  The three day event was a huge success with 1100+ people going through the haunted house.
