Council Results, Jones' Report, Police and More!

Another beautiful day in Lakeway!  Let's start off this week with an update from the Council Meeting last Monday.  Here is that agenda.

Treasurer Al Tyson gave the financial report and the City once again is in GREAT shape - real close to budget figures.  A little under budget on income but that is overcome with all departments being under budget on expenses.

Mayor DeOme presented a Historic Marker for Lakeway Village Square to Tom Stewart to be installed there.  Photo courtesy Devin Monk.

Next Council voted to unanimously support the Memorandum of Understanding with Lake Travis Youth Association (LTYA) regarding the purchase of property, operations and maintenance of the proposed multi-use sports facility.  There is a Bond Proposition on the Ballot to support this project - the bond proceeds would be used to buy the 70 acres and would be owned by the City and leased to LTYA for use.

Item 6 concerns hiring Croslin Design Concepts to do a needs assessment, site study and conceptual design for a new justice center to include the courts and police - we have out grown the current facility.  Passed unanimously.

Item 8 simply authorizes the City to reimburse itself from expenditures it makes prior to a bond.  Since the City is spending money to look at a new Justice Center, if a bond is passed in the future, this resolution is required before expenditure to allow the City to reimburse itself from possible bond proceeds.

A preliminary plan was approved for another section of the Highlands, passed unanimously.

Council then retired to Executive Session where we discussed the City Manager's annual performance review and also discussed some possible real estate transactions.

The Consent Agenda was passed unanimously and another meeting was done!  Good meeting, no surprises!

There actually was another meeting on Wednesday, all members of the Council except Jim Powell went on a tour of the Lakeway MUD facilities - more on that in Steve Jones report.

On to other information!  Here is a link to Andra Dearing's September Parks and Rec. Department report.  Thanks Andra for the GREAT work!

The Great Goblin Glow was record breaking this year!  The weather was outstanding and the balloons were beautiful!  Thanks to the Parks dept. for making it another great success.

From Steve Jones:
Dwight Haley, Joe Bain, Dave DeOme, Phil Brown, Sandy Cox, Dave Taylor, and I attended the tour of Lakeway MUD facilities this week with General Manager Earl Foster.  Earl showed us their effluent storage and pumping facilities located at RM 620 and Stewart Road, pumping facilities off Club House Drive, the wastewater treatment plant on Duck Lake Drive, their raw water barge on Lake Travis, and their water treatment plant off Lakeway Boulevard.

Chessie met with representatives of an Oregon-based firm to discuss a proposal for a senior living project at the corner of Bella Montagna Circle and RM 620.  She also met with Harry Savio of HBA Austin to discuss the spring 2015 Parade of Homes in Serene Hills.  Chessie also attend the monthly CAMPO technical advisory committee meeting.  Among other items, the group recommended improvements to IH-35 and funding of the HERO roadside motorist assistance program as priorities for the current STP-MM funding cycle.

Troy Anderson reports that BDS issued 47 building permits for the Mansions at Lakeway: 45 multi-family residential buildings, one clubhouse, and one mail kiosk.  We should see some significant vertical construction there in the next couple of months.

Chief Radford reports:

An unknown suspect attempted to purchase a vehicle in New Jersey using a Lakeway resident's identification.  The case is being investigated by New Jersey authorities.  Please check your credit report periodically to ensure that your identity is not being used by others.
Sgt. Joel Fischetti tendered his resignation.  Joel will be joining the ranks of the Williamson County Constables office in November.  We wish him well and thank him for his service to the citizens of Lakeway.
Lakeway PD hosted the Travis County Child Protective Team meeting.  The meeting was held at the Highlands Center in Rough Hollow.
Detective Gavit and Sgt. Brown arranged for FBI instructors to teach a course on interview and interrogation for several of our officers.  The class was held at the Heritage Center.
Detective Proctor arranged and attended a forensic interview of a young child reference an abuse case.  Case will be forwarded to TCSO as the incident occurred in the county.
Officer Barto and other employees continue preparations for this weekend’s Fright Fest!

Fraud Alert:  Lakeway residents are receiving calls for winning bogus sweepstakes.  In order to collect the money or prize they need to pay $500 in the form of a Green Dot gift card.  The resident then acquires a gift card from a local business, loads the gift card with the $500.00, and sends the gift card number to the caller.  The callers are very aggressive and this same fraud circulated last year as well.  Two reports like this were taken on 10/21/14 alone.  If you receive one of these calls, hang up and notify LPD immediately.
