Mid Week Update, Fire, Council, Burn Ban

There was a fire West of Lakeway in the 9100 Blk. of Sisk Lane Sunday.  Fully involved house fire and wildland fire.  The 1500 Sq. ft. structure was not occupied at the time of the fire.  No injuries were reported.  Picture and info courtesy Chief Robert Abbot.  Click on the picture for a larger look!

Council met in special session Monday at 2PM.  Here is that agenda.  First Council worked on Budget issues pertaining to proposed expenses.  Council is required to adopt a proposed Ad Valorem tax rate - 1st proposal was a reduction of the tax rate to .1738 cents per $100 evaluation.  This was the rate requested by staff - motion by Joe Bain, second by Dave DeOme, defeated 3 to 4.  Dave Taylor voted for, members Brown, Powell, Cox and Haley against.  Second motion was to maintain the same tax rate as last year, .1748 cents per $100 evaluation, passed 4 to 3.  This rate can still be reduced but can not be raised.  Because of increases in values although the rate is the same, taxes would still  increase slightly.

Ballot language was discussed relating to a proposed bond election expected to be on the November election - this bond money would be used to purchase approximately 70 acres NW of Bee Creek Road for use by the City residents and LTYA.  Cost of the property would be about 3.6 million.  More on that as soon as I have more information.  Travis County and LTYA would fund development of the land for park use.

Joe Bland Construction is working on various storm sewer improvements, there will be various road closures during this construction.  Currently, Brooks Hollow is closed between Betula and Chestnut Hill.  Once that section is complete construction will move to Explorer.  Here is a link to a map of the construction.

And last but not least, Travis County and the City have reissued the city's burn ban effective today - need more RAIN!

Steve Jones and I attended August's CAMPO meeting last night after the Special Council Session - it was mostly housekeeping on moving some funds around to pay for projects.  I expect September to be a little more interesting and I'll post more then.

That's all for today!
