Council, Chessie's Report, Cool Arts, More to Do!

Lakeway City Council will meet in regulars session Monday August 18, 2014 in Council Chambers.  Here is a link to the agenda and Council packets for the meeting.  Looks like a pretty short meeting!

From Chessie:
Because of the lag we have experienced with the Travis County Appraisal District in providing certified values, we must delay holding our first public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rate.  The meeting scheduled for August 25 has been cancelled. Public hearings will need to be held on September 8 (2:00 pm) and September 15 (6:30 pm; regular council meeting), and we will need to add a special meeting on September 22 (2:00 pm) to adopt the budget and tax rate. Julie will update the budget calendar handout with the new schedule and have it available for you Monday evening.

Court Administrator Ruth Sandoval reports that the marshal made 75 phone calls, 35 personal contacts, left 20 door hangers and made 10 searches for warrants with bad contact information this week. For the period August 1 – 14, 2014, 36 violators made payments in the amount of $6,958.40, $10,426.40 paid as non-cash for jail credit granted by judge. The police department filed 23 traffic violations with the court, and the court issued 73 new warrants (47 for traffic, 25 State Law and 1 City Ordinance violation).  The court has processed a grand total of $26,944.61 Fees/Fines so far this month.

Troy Anderson reports that during the City Building Commission’s regular meeting, they found that view blocking was not a concern at 423 Dasher and 1110 Challenger; heights were approved as requested. A Variance Extension at 136 Sailors Run pertaining to garage orientation was approved.  An Administrative Appeal at 703 Show Low Court pertaining to positions of structures on lot was approved and determinations on a provision to the landscaping requirements (i.e. rocks in the right-of-way) were approved at 2021 Lakeway Boulevard, 110 Vinca Drive and 525 Flamingo Boulevard. Next Wednesday afternoon the Board of Adjustment will meet to hear a request for a variance to a golf course setback at 132 Crest View Drive.

Chief Radford provided the following report.
PATROL:
The wheels were stolen off of a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence on Barrie Dr.  The vehicle was left on blocks.
Routine traffic stops led to the following charges being filed:
o Possession of drug paraphernalia
o Out of jurisdiction warrant arrest

Officers arrested a suspect for shoplifting at Randall’s and charged her with class B theft.

Last but most importantly, I am happy to announce that we have hired a new city secretary! Jo Ann Touchstone, currently serving as City Secretary in Dripping Springs, accepted our offer of employment this week. She is scheduled to begin work around the first of September. Jo Ann is a certified municipal clerk through TMCA, and will be a great addition to our team. Please plan to stop by and introduce yourself in early September.
