Well, another week has ended and it's time to find out what's going on in the City! You may know, we have had about 4 inches of rain in the last week, Lake Travis is up about 3 feet - only about 40 feet short of average for this time of year - ouch! This Sunday the "Save Lake Travis" Fundraising Party will be held at Sail and Ski Yacht Club at 16406 Stewart Rd., Lakeway, TX benefiting the Central Texas Water Coalition! Here's a link to more information!
Lakeway"s Golden Anniversary Gala is scheduled for November 8th from 6:30 to 10:30 at the Lakeway Inn. I hear there are still tickets available. Here's a link to more information.
There will be a Veteran's Day Celebration at the Heritage Center on November 11 at 11AM. U.S. Air Force Ret. Col. Julius "Jay" Jayroe will be the guest speaker. Here is more information about the event. It will be a GREAT event!
Lakeway Police will co-host Fright Fest this year October 25th - 27th. Here is a link to all the particulars of the event. Try it out!
The Annual "Goblin Glow" will be held Saturday Night at City
Park. With a little luck and calm winds it will be a GREAT show - bring the kids and enjoy the weather and spooks! Here is a link to more information.
CBC (City Building Commission) will meet in regular session on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013. Here is that agenda. Looks like a busy day!
Council meets Monday October 21 at 6:30PM in regular session. Several items of interest. Here is the agenda and here is a link to the Council Member Packets. We will be considering General Obligation Bonds that will finance the Flintrock Road Project. We want to get this on the table to take advantage of the favorable interest rates for this project.
Council will consider a Zoning Amendment for C-4 Zoning that will allow highly restricted Auto Dealerships in the City Limits. Here is the Staff Report - read through it and see what you think. Another controversial item is the Tuscan Village PUD amendment to remove the 2 story restriction for building there. I'm sure it will be an interesting meeting!
From Steve Jones:
Administration staff met with representatives from the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority and Commissioner Daugherty’s office to discuss long-term transportation planning for western Travis County. Staff will be meeting with representatives from other area jurisdictions, subdivisions, and agencies over the next few months with the goal of developing a unified transportation planning vision for the area.
Staff met with representatives from Lakeway Medical Village to discuss revisions to the preliminary plan for this project. We expect the next phase of development to include restaurants, a daycare facility, and an independent living project.
Chief Radford Reports:
During the peak of the rain, we had to close Flintrock Road for a short time, at the dip, due to flooding. We reopened it within an hour or so. As this rain persists in the next few weeks, LPD will continue to monitor our cities low water crossings.
Animal Protection Officer Greig is working a dog bite case, and she has set some traps for some coyotes in the interior of our city. She is working with Texas Parks and Wildlife to help manage an issue with some of our coyotes.
Officers handled ten traffic collisions this week, mostly due to the rainy weather and driver inattention.
Detective Proctor is preparing a grand jury presentation for a deceptive business practices case that we have been working since 2010. Detective Proctor and Officer Gavit represented the Lakeway Police Department at Child Protective Team Executive Committee Meeting. This team meets as a round table to discuss ways to improve the investigations of child abuse allegations in Travis County.
Sgt. Jason Brown attended a county meeting this week to discuss mental health services. As you know, we have seen an increase in calls in this area. There are some issues with bed space for mental health patients once an emergency order has been initiated. The usual facilities are full 99% of the time, and the wait can be days.
It has been a busy few weeks for community outreach activities as well. Last week we assisted the Lakeway Church with a “mini” public safety day event. Officers spoke this week at the Lake Travis Driving academy, and Chief Radford spoke at the Realty Austin monthly training event. We are still preparing for the “Fright Fest” planned for the end of next week.
The Citizens Police academy Alumni Association presented a check and a large photo of Sgt. Chris Doles to give to Kristen Doles. The group also gave the LPD an album of photographs taken during the days before and including the day of Sgt. Doles’ funeral.
LPD Honor Guard will handle the US Honor Flag as it returns to Lakeway this week to be taken to the funeral home and the gravesite for APD Lt. Crabb who died in a vehicle collision earlier this week.
Troy Anderson Reports:
“On Tuesday, the city commenced demolition of two unsafe structures located at 15206 Mettle and 111 Medalist. This has been the culmination of a year’s worth of work to abate these public nuisances. Demolition will continue throughout the next couple of weeks as the contractor systematically razes these structures. Also of note, Senior Code Enforcement Officer Greg Delong resigned from the city Wednesday afternoon. We certainly wish Mr. Delong the best in his future endeavors.
