First on the agenda is a road update. In a Special Council Meeting on Tuesday, the Council voted to hire a contractor to rebuild Lakeway Blvd. crossing Hurst Creek - just West of Lakeway Church. Council decided to close the road for 4-7 days rather than do one side and then the other. The reasons for that decision included safety of workers, length of time for the project and about $100,000 in extra costs. Here is a link to more information and a detour map.
As you have probably noticed, the contractor has moved in barricades and have started on the project. Unfortunately today we noticed that the South side of the road, the side we are using for traffic is now collapsing just as the North side did. The contractor is bringing in steel plates to try to keep the road open until they need to close it. If the road continues to deteriorate, and becomes dangerous, the road will be closed early. So the suggestion is to map out your detour and be ready with an alternate plan.
The Lakeway Police Department is joining forces with the Texas Department of Transportation and other groups to enforce the seat belt laws. These laws save lives! Here is a link to more information.
CBC will meet Thursday May 9th, here is that agenda.
From Chessie Zimmerman:
As of this afternoon, Lakeway Boulevard remains open. The void spread a bit further today, but the contractor has stabilized it and put steel plates in place. Our goal is to keep the road open as long as it is safe to do so, even though it requires constant monitoring and adjustments. Ideally, the road will be closed around the middle of next week, and work will begin immediately thereafter.
Administration staff met with developers this week on projects including Bee Creek Road improvements and a proposed independent living component at Lakeway Medical Village.
From Chief Radford:
Saturday’s DEA National Take Back event resulted in the largest amount collected for the Austin area. The total weight collected from 12 sites across the Austin area was 3,382 pounds, compared to 3,180 pounds in 2012. Lakeway residents contributed 283 pounds to this effort. The Citizens Police Academy topic for the week was narcotics, presented by Lt. Ken Farr. Our community resource officer Eric Barto and Officer Mathis gave two presentations at the LTISD elementary schools this week, and the department participated in Springfest. We also hosted three children’s groups at the PD. They were given a tour, shown some of our equipment and enjoyed sitting in some of our patrol vehicles. The staff and the kids from the schools were very pleased and had a good time. Overall, we had a normal week for call volume, with nothing out of the ordinary to report.
From Troy Anderson:
This week the Zoning & Planning Commission recommended approval of a zoning change for a pocket park in Serene Hills and approved a 1 year extension to the Special Use Permit for the sales trailer at Flint Rock Falls, extending the permit through January of 2016. The city revoked the site development permit for the Fairlake condominium project on Lakeway Drive this week. The contractor responded immediately and has put a plan in place to address the outstanding issues and move forward. Work should resume as early as next week.
Thanks to all for the support! If there is more "breaking news" I'll try to put out a Special Edition!
