Rain!, Election, Town Center and More!

Boy, I leave for a week and a lot happens!  Lets get to it!

It looks like we got nearly an inch of rain in the last few days - wow, that was great news!  The news for Lake Travis is still dismal without a big storm though.  I'm hearing predictions of mandatory water restrictions by late summer - this will be worse than recent times if it happens.  Hope and pray for a large rain event to get us out of this mess!

The tally is in, Lakeway's 1/4 cent road sales tax is in for another 4 years.  The final vote was  534 for and 173 against.  This helps keep our roads in good shape and lets folks that don't live here but spend money here and pass through help with the expense.  Thanks for your support!

On May 7th, police were sent to a residence on Gebron where they found an unresponsive 5 month old child.  Here is that press release.  This was State Senator Leticia Van de Putte's Grandaughter.  Please keep this family in your prayers - I can't imagine what they are feeling.

Lakeway Blvd. was closed Saturday and should re-open next Sunday.  Here is a link to more information and a link to the detour map.

It appears that Lakeway is getting a new Town Center! Stratus properties  will be breaking ground in 2014 on a large development mix of retail and residential property at Glen Heather Dr. off RM 620.  Currently the property is slated for a HEB Grocery, a dining movie theater, and other small businesses along with some residential property.  Access will be from 620 and another access road is planned from Lohemans Crossing.  They plan to protect as many of the existing trees as possible an integrate them into the plan - it looks like a nice addition to the area!

Crosswater Yacht Club's Grand opening is Sunday May 19th.  Here is a link to the announcement.

Lakeway's Red, White and Blue Grand Marshal is Gerald Astorino!  Congratulations to one of the City's esteemed citizens!  Here is a link to Gerald's Bio - take some time to read it!

Here's a press release for Lakeway's July 4th "Golden Anniversary" Celebration:

From Steve Jones:

The April year-to-date sales tax receipts for Lakeway were up 11.6%.  We are about 10% ahead of last year's revenue.

The LCRA held a meeting with their “firm water customers” on May 2 to give a forecast of water supply this summer.  LCRA expects relatively normal weather conditions this summer, perhaps a little hotter and drier than normal.  That means there will be little inflow into the lakes and a real possibility that we will face water use curtailment by late July or early August.  We have never experienced a curtailment, which is more severe than mandatory conservation.  We would have limited, or no water for irrigation and city property and road medians would suffer greatly.  We might avoid that with some moderate rain in the next few weeks.  Even moderate rain can significantly reduce water use for irrigation and, thereby, reduce overall water consumption.

The City received a letter from George Blume's attorney that he intends to drop his lawsuit against the LCC - wow, what a waste of money!

The Capital Area Council of Governments officially notified us that they will not fund our PSAP (primary service answering point for 9-1-1) next year.  They said if we want to keep our PSAP, the city may fund it.  The current cost to operate it is estimated at $32,000 per year.  They would like us to decide whether to let it go or self-fund before July 22.  Therefore, it will be on our next council agenda for consideration.

From Chief Radford:

A subject was cited for reckless damage to the grassy area at City Park.  He was driving in the dirt and grass area doing “donuts”; his information will be sent to parks and rec to recover damages.

Citizens Police Academy met this week, the topic was animal protection.

We responded to the Lakeway Resort on a call and seized drugs and guns from a hotel room.  The occupant was arrested in Waller County on drug and gun charges earlier that day.  The hotel was notified by one of his friends, and the hotel wanted to clean the room.  Upon entry, they saw the weapons and called LPD.  An investigation is ongoing with ATF and others.

Officers were requested by the FAA to investigate a plane that had violated protected airspace during the president’s visit to Austin.  There was no apparent threat and the information was turned over to the Secret Service.

Even though they had a setback with rain Friday week ago morning, Aaron Concrete has made progress on the culvert project today.  They excavated as much of the area as they could and removed some of the old culvert pipe.  They still plan to close the road tomorrow and begin removing the remainder of the old culvert.

In area news, it looks like Bee Cave passed their "Home Rule" and it will now move forward.

In the School Board Election it looks like Kim Flasch won the election for Place 5 with 54% of the vote.
King, Kline and Bliss will be joining the Bee Cave City Council.

I hope everyone is having a GREAT Sunday and it looks like a wonderful week ahead!

Thanks for the support - keep on looking!
