In case you haven't noticed, the construction on Hwy. 71 is causing major traffic issues, especially around rush time! Be sure to allow additional travel time and drive safely!
The Hospital behind the Post Office seems to be moving forward again. Their new name is Lake Travis Plaza Medical Campus. They are coming to ZAPCO next week for approval of signs. They have recently taken out permits to do some remodeling of the building.
The large hospital complex will be at ZAPCO also to seek approval for more signs for their location. Here is the complete agenda for ZAPCO.
More feedback is coming in from some of the areas looked at for annexation. Staff and council will be looking at all the information and public hearings will be scheduled.
From Steve Jones:
The City was granted party status by Judge Paul Keeper of the State office of Administrative Hearings in the matter of the Hill Country groundwater conservation district. Pretrial filings will start beginning in March of next year - expect some slips in the schedule because of notification issues.
Beginning November 1st, Lakeway Resort and Spa will be under new management. Redstone Companies Hospitality (owner/operator of the Houstonian) will be the new manager.
Steve Jones has accepted a seat on a steering committee to conduct an economic impact study to evaluate the Lake Travis economy - especially with regard to lake water levels and water quality. He will certainly be an asset to the committee and to our City working on these issues!
There was a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday for Real Del Lago, a 22,500 square foot center for retail, office and a restaurant located on RR 620 and Lohmans Spur. Craigo's Pizza and Pasta restaurant will be one of the tenants.
Lakeway Airpark South has submitted a new site plan and building plans for hangars and the City Engineer has informed them that a special use permit will be required before building plans will be approved per the new AV zoning ordinance. The City received word yesterday that the El Paso Medical Group (owners of Lakeway Airpark South) have filed a lawsuit against the City claiming, among other things that our zoning ordinance is unreasonable. More on this as it happens.
The police department cleared at least four burglary cases this week. Two suspects were caught inside a residence and were charged with burglary of a habitation. The suspects were also believed responsible of 2 other prior cases in the World of Tennis Condos and Schooner area. Steve Jones was partially responsible for bringing attention to a suspicious vehicle!
The police had another manhunt this week for a man who ran from a traffic stop. He was not found but the car was impounded along with other evidence. Good Work!
Water leaked into the City Hall during the heavy rain last month, soaking the carpet in the finance department. While working on the leak, more issues were identified and they discovered the windows were not properly installed and sealed when the building was built. It may cost 10 to 15 thousand dollars to make the repairs. It appears the general contractor has gone out of business and the subcontractor has not been identified as of this time.

On a better note, it appears the sales tax revenues are on the rise for Lakeway per the Bee Cave Bee.
North of town, Sears Home Town Store's doors have reportedly already opened in the Lighthouse Market Center (across from Oak Grove Plaza). Sobani Restaurant and Wine Bar is expected to open in about 2 weeks and will feature modern American food.
More as I find out!
