The week ended with a bang (literally). One of our police officers was turning around on Lakeway Blvd. to pursue a car exceeding 60 mph when another vehicle following the speeding vehicle topped the hill and broadsided him. Both vehicles were severely damaged but no one sustained serious injury. Travis County Sheriffs officers will be doing the investigation. The speeding vehicles contained military personnel coming from the Lakeway Inn. Thank goodness no one was seriously injured!
On another police note, both Chief Radford and Captain Crowder were spotted this week on the street directing traffic. Thanks for the extra effort!
I have learned that the issues with the upgrade on the computers in the police cars has been solved and they will be up and running in a couple of weeks. More on that as it happens!
Both Lohman's Drive and Serene Hills Drive are approaching opening day! Lohmans is topped and striped and should open by Friday if not earlier. Serene Hills looks like it is also ready to open, pending inspections. Good news all around!
We have a new Administrative Assistant, Rachel Wallace, that will start work August 23rd to replace Donna Boyles that is now the City Secretary.

Steve and Mayor DeOme met with Jorge Barro Thursday to receive preliminary data on our economic impact study of the Regional Medical Center. Jorge is a student of economics at UT. Early indications are that in the first full year of operation, the center could inject as much as $300 million into the local economy. He will be looking at sales tax revenue and the overall impact to our local economy.
The other hospital building behind the post office has submitted building plan revisions to convert the facility from a long-term acute care hospital to a general acute care hospital.

City Building Commission results:
Variance requests at 28 Stone Terrace and 105 Deerhorn Ct were denied.
A clarification on a variance granted at 917 Porpoise was given to allow a fence to encroach on the building setback from 5 to 10 feet.
all of the height determinations were approved except one at 1110 Challenger that was denied. I believe that will be looked at again at the nest meeting.
All the final CO's on the list were approved. Here is the full agenda.
