Weather, Flag Disposal, Council. NNO and a Little More!

 *****Weather*****

WOW!!!  Went out this morning about 7:30 and it was 48°!  What a shock!  It looks like Fall is really here.  Looks like highs in the low 80's and lows in the 50's for the rest of the week.  The wind is gone and all that's left is beautiful weather.  Next chance of rain is Sunday, maybe 20%.  Looks like a GREAT week!

*****Flag Disposal*****

October 11th the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) will be dedicating a flag receptacle at the Heritage Center.  It's also the National Society of the DAR's 130th Anniversary.  If you have a worn flag that needs to be retired, take it to the Heritage Center and it will be taken care of at 963 Lohmans Crossing.  A big thanks to the DAR for this service!

*****Council*****

Credit where credit is due!  Council at the last minute voted to retain the Tax Rate from last year.  They are taking $40K +/- from the Fund Balance to prop up the expenses.  It was unanimous.  So, if your house retained the same value as last year, your city taxes will remain the same.

They still have 4 to 5 additional positions in the budget, any of which would have easily paid for the deficit.

Council received a report regarding the Oaks PUD.  Their intent appears to revise an ordinance about the PUD and then require a start date for building Main Street across their property.  It appears negotiations have fallen through.  It's always interesting to pick a fight with an adversary that has more money that you do, I guess we'll see where it goes.

Council sent back the "Thoroughfare Plan" that was presented in the council packet.  Starts on page 93.  The roads proposed start on page 98.  Lots of roads and improvements that the city or county will have to find money for if they get done.

Then the infamous executive sessions started.  Two dealing with the Lakeway Police, one about a complaint and the other possibly changing or revising Department Policies, Procedures and Practices.  It appears council now wants to manage the Police.  Of course, no decisions were made in executive session....

The meeting was over at about 10:00 p.m.

*****National Night Out*****

National Night Out is official going to be a virtual event on October 6th, starting at 6:30 PM.  There will be a presentation, here is a link to more information.  It will be a Facebook Live event, I guess if you are not on Facebook, you are out of luck.

NNO is a GREAT event.  I hope we will be able to get back to normal soon!

And be sure to lock your vehicles and take out any valuables.  It appears several cars were reported stolen last week - mostly crimes of opportunity.  Unlocked doors and some with keys in them evidentially on September 24th between 4 and 6 a.m.

That's all for right now, please send a note to lakeway@bain.us if you would like to be added to my email list.  Thanks for reading the blog and learning about issues in our great city.

If you would, visit https://savelakeway.com and read the information presented.  I would appreciate opinions and thoughts.  There is a contact page if you wish to contact other members of the PAC.

Thanks again!
