Some Weather, Police Support, Council and More!

Good afternoon!  It's Friday again.  About all that's normal about that is the weather - so let's get to it.

*****Weather*****

Well, it's 100° on July 3rd.  Supposed to be that or above for the next three days, no rain for a while and the Sahara dust is upon us.  Doesn't look like that's going to change for a while.  Next chance of rain is later next week and it's not much of a chance.  I showed 1.79 inch of rain in June, a high of 102.6 and low of 46.8.  Now it's Summer!

*****Police Support*****

I'll probably get some hate mail on this, but some folks are looking for a way to support our local police.  We have GREAT police.  They support and protect Lakeway even amid the current conditions where some cities are wanting to defund the police departments.  We have a GREAT Police Force!  In case you don't know, our department is honored for their forward thinking (one of the first to use body cams) and training for de-escallation procedures and mental illness procedures.

A while back we had a push to put blue lights out that show your support.  There are still many folks that are proudly displaying their lights, I know I do.

If you want to order some lights to show support for the Lakeway Police, here is a link for standard led bulbs and this link is for the candelabra style (small base) led bulbs.  Both are through Amazon.  Take  few minutes to show our officers you support them!

*****Council Special Meeting*****

Yep, it's already time for the next meeting Monday, July 6th.  Here is a link to the agenda / packet.

If you'll notice, in the consent agenda, there is an amendment to the fee schedule and inspection fees.  All increases of course.

They are also amending the sign ordinance adding a section on political signs on city property.

6)  Council will again take up the proposed charter amendments.  Safe bet is they will ignore the Charter Review Committee recommendations and go for:
  •  Two year terms (doesn't matter that citizens overwhelmingly voted for 3 year terms a few years ago.
  •  Putting November elections on the ballot.
7)  Budget presentation by City Manager on the 2021 Budget.

8)  Relief Fund Distribution - one has to wonder why the city needs to be in the middle of this.

9)  Creating a City of Lakeway Health Department.  More tax dollars.

10)  Police Department Overview by chief Radford.

11-12)  Infamous Executive Sessions.
===========

Well folks, I know that Travis County and Austin and the City of Lakeway have instituted a mask ordinance.  I know that because there was an alert on my phone, two texts (one in Spanish), an email and a phone call to my personal home phone, and both of our cell phones.  Really?  Oh, and I almost forgot - the promised fireworks were cancelled too.  Bad idea from the start...

This will be the first time since I've lived here we aren't having a July 4th parade (thank you China) and to top it off, we can't use the parks or Green Belts.  I feel a little confined.

*****Don't forget to pick up a Lakeway Directory at the Library or Activity Center.  The City supposedly has them too, but since they are closed folks are having a hard time there.  If you're no in the book, sign up!

Fireworks are not allowed in the city limit so I'm sure it will be quiet....

The Church Construction continues to move forward at a fast pace - supposed to be open in November - I hope we can use it!

I hope everyone enjoys a safe and wonderful 4th of July Holiday.  It will be different this year!

If you need pictures or know someone that does, please let me know at joe@skypict.com or send them to the Sky Pictures web site!  Referrals are appreciated!

That's all for now!  Have a GREAT holiday and remember our Freedom isn't free!

    1. Please send me an email directly to lakeway@bain.us and I'll find out - the comment is posted anonymously. Other than that, I believe Chief Radford is a liaison to the Police Foundation and you can contact him.

Thank you for your support of the Police!
