More Weather, Caronavirus, ZAPCO and some Fun!

*****Weather*****

Another crazy week!  Warm, Cold, Rain, Wind and Sunshine.  We got a total of about 0.86 inch of rain over the week.  Some lightning and thunder.  Get ready, Spring is almost here and Thunderstorms are around the corner.  Be ready!

A little cool and then a slow warming trend with the possibility of rain over the next week.  All in all, GREAT Texas weather.

*****Coronavirus*****

Wash your hands for 20 seconds, don't touch your face and if your sick, stay home and go to the doctor.  Has anyone else tried to not touch your face?  Geeze, it's impossible!  It's like a cold with fever.

SXSW is cancelled!  What a hit to Austin and the SXSW organizers.

The City is putting information on their website if you want to see it.  Here's a link.

If it were me, I think I would get my info from the CDC - here's a link.

*****ZAPCO*****

ZAPCO met in regular session on Wednesday.  Here was their agenda / packet.

5)  Comprehensive Plan Update - supposedly 99% done now and changes went before ZAPCO.  They said only superficial changes, I thought the last council made substantive changes - maybe my timeline was wrong.  Sent to council unamously.  The 99% plan is in the packet if you want to go through it.

  • 6)  More Ordinance Amendments.  Court of appeals says Lakeway can't limit number of folks in a rental - says it limits peoples right to public gathering.  So now that limit is off.
  • They are also changing a couple of items in chapter 30.  Instead of variance applications for heights and size of structure going directly to Board of Adjustment, they will now go first to City Building Commission.  Should have been that way all along.
  • They then went through the sign ordinance.  Lots of changes including several working toward "dark sky" issues.  Signs in windows can't be more than 20% if total glass.  Some approvals moved from ZAPCO to code official.  More is in the ordinance - look in the packet for complete info.

*****Charter Review*****

Public hearing of the Charter Review Committee.  Even after all the hype on social media and emails, about 5 showed up with only 1 citizen speaking.  Members are working hard on this to make it right and with the best result for the city.

*****Fun Things*****

Porcupine

I've seen lots of critters out here - foxes, nutria, coons, possums deer and more!  This is my first Porcupine!  About 2 a.m. in the morning.  Pretty rare in Central Texas but they are around.  Watch full screen for the best results.

The Lakeway Church Construction is moving forward.  Iron is going up and it is starting to look like a building.

More on that as it continues.

Registration is now open for the Heritage Trail Tours.  Here's a link for more info.  There's only three bus tours so call them quick!

Lakeway MUD is putting on a show and tell about basic home plumbing.  Here's a link for more information!  March 17, 10:30 to 11:30 at the Lake Travis Community Library.

Have you seen the TV ad that Lakeway Police starred in on TV?  Here's a link to the article and video.

Last but not least, don't forget to move you clocks ahead tonight - it's spring forward for Daylight Savings Time - don't you wish they would just leave it one way or another?

Thanks for reading the blog - send it to your friends that might like to see it!  If you want to be added to my email list send a note to lakeway@bain.us and I'll get it done!
