Obligatory Weather, Law Suit, Road Construction and More!

*****Obligatory Weather*****

Did it feel cool to you Thursday morning?  Well, it was!  It was 24° on the weather station.  I bet some of the blooms got nipped.  I thought we had a homeless camp in the neighborhood and realized it was plant protection.  Whew!  Don't want to be any more like Austin than we already are!  Look for a warmer weekend and dry until next week.  Leap year - 29 days in February - enjoy the extra day!

*****One Law Suit Down*****

If you've been following the city legal issues, you might remember that Mr. Kilgore sued the city over the election issues and their method to get past the problem.  The first court said he didn't have "standing" for the suit and he appealed.  Wednesday, ,Feb. 26th, the court upheld the lower courts finding and dismissed the suit.  Here is the opinion if you would like to read it.

There are still a couple of other suits moving along.  Cherry Knoll L.L.C. is suing the city and the city is suing them.  One down is good!

*****Council / No Council*****

Although the city sent out notice there would be a "Special Meeting" on 3/2, they have now cancelled that meeting.

*****Dr. Lancaster Replacement*****

I was honored to be asked to attend a LTISD Superintendent Selection Feedback Meeting Wednesday.  It was a great event where the folks were looking for what the community feels is important for the new Superintendent.  I was honored to be there with 15 others including Mayor Cox and Mayor Elect Kara King.  The group was about 90% teachers and administration, many had kids in school now.  They held 2 other meetings Thursday.

*****Road Construction*****

Looks like they are working on Hurst Creek Road right now.  They're putting in drainage pipe and will be re-constructing the road between Brooks Hollow and Lochan Ora Road.  Here's more info.

Been on RM 620 and down FM 2222 lately?  It's a mess.  They are widening 2222 and making another way to get to RM 620 South.  If you've noticed the dirt work on the right while going North on RR 620, that is where the bypass from 2222 will come into RR 620.

It's in two separate projects.  Project 1, the part working on FF 2222 reconstructing the road from Bonaventure Dr to Ribelin Ranch Dr. was let July 2018 and estimated completing is May 2021.

Although I was under the impression there would be a flyover, that is not the case.  There will be a light on FM 2222 where you will turn left on the bypass.  Looks like those Northbound on RR 620 will be able to get to FM 2222 without a light.

Project 2 is to construct a new connector from RM 620 to to Bonaventure Dr and widen RM 620.  This was let in July 2019 and completion date is February 2021.

Looks like it will be a mess for a while and I'm not really sure it's not just going to move the congestion further down RM 620.

There's a public meeting of the Charter Review Committee next Thursday, March 5 from 1-3 p.m.  There will be a comment section where interested parties can speak.  Here is a link to  the current Charter - please take the time to read it!  State law has many requirement that have to be met and the committee is trying to bring the current Charter into compliance.

Sounds like they are doing some software upgrades to the City System Monday, March 2.  Looks like the Court, Solid Waste and Building Development may be off line at times.  Be patient.

Parks and Rec., ZAPCO  and the Public Engagement Committee will meet next week - agendas when they are posted.

That's all for right now, let me know if you have questions or comments.  If you would like to be added to my email list, please send a not to lakeway@bain.us and I'll get you added.

Weather is getting better, if you need or know of someone that needs photo's, please let me know or send them to Sky Pictures!

Joe Bain
