*****More Editorial*****
A little weather - you know I have too... Looks like a little rain (maybe up to an inch?) even possible thunderstorms tomorrow. Warmed up a lot, and will cool off for the weekend with another warm up next week. Life in Lakeway, wait a minute, the weather WILL change!
*****Law Enforcement Appreciation Day*****
Today, January 9 is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day! Please wave or thank an officer if you get a chance! Law Enforcement have come under fire in recent years in many communities. They work hard to keep us safe and are there for us 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Think about that for a moment - on those holidays you enjoy with your family and friends, many officers are on duty and are keeping us safe.
In Lakeway you might notice many homes with blue lights showing. This was a project to show our appreciation for the Lakeway Police. Want to join in? Get on the internet and find led blue bulbs and lite up the city! Not expensive and are really appreciated!
*****ZAPCO*****
ZAPCO met in regular session Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. Here is the agenda. Here are the results:
4) Consent agenda was approved.
5) The zoning change for 704 Serene Estates Dr. was tabled until the February 5th meeting for more information from the Developer and HOA - neither was present. One resident that backs up to the "Pocket Park" was against it because of security and privacy issues and wanted a fence - the HOA doesn't allow a fence there.
6) A Special Use Permit was recommended for 4 Arrows Pets and Paws LLC for a pet grooming and training business at 2300 Lohmans Spur, Ste. 192.
7) Variance was granted for a reduction in impervious cover to O'Reilly Auto Parts located at 219 RR 620 after much discussion.
8) Discussion on sign issues brought up in open house meeting about new ordinances. Realtors are still not happy with boxes, and want more latitude on "Open House" signs. Video cut off before end of the meeting - I have no idea what further discussion went on. Really?
*****Christmas Decorations?*****
I stopped to take one pictures along Lohmans, I'm noticing that there are still many trees decorated around the city - looking kind of trashy. For all those that put them up, please take them down! I don't want my tax dollars used to pick up your mess. It happens every year and our city, county and state wind up dedicating many man hours cleaning it up.
First some observations:
- I see we have relabeled the Code Enforcement Trucks "Code Compliance". Aren't they here to enforce our laws?
- The "No Skate Boards" sign at the Heritage Center Memorial area is missing.
- The "No Motor Vehicles, etc." signs are no longer at Hamilton Greenbelt or City Park.
Is this all part of the new "Progressive" movement? It's costing you and I tax dollars and to what end? Do you feel better without the "No's"?
I think the Memorial area at the Heritage Center needs to be restricted. My thought was it is supposed to be a quiet area for people to go and enjoy with a little reverence for those that have served our country and are memorialized there.
What about "NO Lifeguards" at the City Park? Seems kind of silly to me....
Lakeway was established with rules and ordinances that made our city different - made it beautiful and a wonderful place to live. Let's not throw all that out because some of our elected officials have little connection to the history of Lakeway. Give me your thoughts - lakeway@bain.us - better yet, let your elected officials know. Who made these decisions? I didn't see it on any council agenda or even in discussion.

===========
That's all for today, thank the police and drive safely! Please share with your neighbors and friends - people need to know what's happening in their fair city!
If you want to be added to my email list, send a note to lakeway@bain.us and I'll get you added (or removed). Have a GREAT day in Lakeway!
Joe Bain
