Texas Weather, Big Day Tomorrow, Drug Take Back and More!

Welcome to Texas weather!  Possible light freeze in the morning?  Wind advisory for Friday and cold for the Lake Travis football game tonight - especially with the wind chill.  

Tomorrow brings a couple of events of great interest.  Public Safety Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lake Travis Elementary, 15303 Kollmeyer Drive (off 620).  Here is a link to more information.  There's also the Halloween Dog Walk tomorrow from at City Park starting at 10 a.m.  Here is a link to more on that.

Early voting is going on right now through Friday, November 3.  There are several important items on the ballot, please do your homework and VOTE!  Remember, the County Parks Bond includes the money for our Sports Park.

Police are having another Drug Take Back day Saturday the 28th also.  10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  Here is a link to more info.  

ZAPCO meets in regular session on November 1, 2017 at 6:30 in council chambers.  Here is that agenda - this includes the members packets.

City Staff was informed this week that Texas Gas intends to install a large natural gas main along RM 620 from Bee Cave through Lakeway to Steiner Ranch.  They plan to begin construction next spring.

I'm told that Jason's Deli is looking to build in the Oaks!  I think that would be a good addition!

From the Chief:
LPD Officers conducted 212 traffic stops, responded to 9 alarm calls, handled 24 animal calls, responded to 10 collisions, answered 30 suspicious circumstances calls and handled 132 other types of calls for service for a total of 417.

Routine traffic stops resulted in the following charges, Out of Jurisdiction Warrant X 1, Driving while Intoxicated X 2, Open Container X 1, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia X 1. 

Officers responded to Baylor, Scott & White hospital in reference to a mental health evaluation. Upon arrival at the emergency room, officers learned of a patient reported to staff a desire to harm themselves. Officers completed an emergency detention order and the patient remained at the hospital for further treatment.

Officers responded to a Lakeway Blvd. address in reference to a suspicious persons call. Upon arrival officers located a subject who was pounding on the complainant’s door. The subject was detained while the officers investigated the scene. The subject was believed to be impaired and was released to EMS for transport to the hospital. This case is still being investigated; no charges have been filed at this time.  

Officers responded to a RR 620 fast food restaurant in reference to a welfare check. Upon arrival, the officers found two subjects in a vehicle. One person was asleep and was having trouble being awakened by the other subject. Officers contacted EMS to treat the subject. During further investigation officers discovered both prescription and non-prescription drugs in the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and was transported to the Travis County Jail. 

Detectives responded to the 200 block of Canyon Turn Trail in reference to a recovered stolen vehicle found by patrol officers. The vehicle was reported stolen by Austin Police Department. Detectives processed the vehicle for evidence and forwarded the information to the APD Auto Theft Unit. This case may be related to other motor vehicle thefts in the area, including a vehicle that was recently reported stolen out of Lakeway. The Lakeway stolen vehicle was recently recovered in Austin and has been processed for evidence by Detectives. The case remains active as Detectives are following up on several leads. 

Detectives were assigned to investigate a report of Theft/Fraud in which the victim suffered an estimated $90,000 loss. According to the victim, she was unwittingly involved in a “sweet heart” or “romance” scam online. Due to the nature of the offense and the loss amount, the case was turned over to the Department of Homeland Security, Investigations Unit for further investigation.

Detectives assisted law enforcement authorities from Louisiana in reference to a possible sexual assault of a child that occurred in their jurisdiction. Detectives scheduled and attended a forensic interview with the child, who now lives in Lakeway, and turned over the findings/information to the originating agency. 

Detectives were assigned to investigate a report of Identity Theft that occurred in the 100 block of Desert Forest. According to the victim, she received a phone call from an unknown subject who already had her identifying information. The victim later discovered unusual activity within her banking accounts. Detectives are working with bank officials and following up on the few available leads in the case. 


Detectives were assigned to investigate a report of an Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle in the 5300 block of Serene Hills Drive. According to the victim, she rented a vehicle on behalf of another person (known associate), who has since refused to return the vehicle. Detectives are following up on the few leads in the case are attempting to locate the vehicle.
