Monday Steve Jones and I met with Victor Vargas, TxDOT Manager for this area. Starting at Flintrock Road and 620 we are going to add another left turn land on Flintrock Road. This will allow 1 dedicated left turn, one straight or left and a right turn lane. It should alleviate the back up issues there. We are working to get the contractor working on Flintrock now to do the job while he is there. The bad news - we will be closing one of the existing lanes to take out the median for worker safety so there will be a traffic issue while construction goes on. It will be worth it!
Moving North, we will add another left turn lane at Main (HEB). This will split the signals because of a restricted turning radius but Mr. Vargas thinks it will work.
Still moving North, we looked at options for a signal at Dave Drive. Mr. Vargas is having their engineers look at a couple of options so we can get that process started. It is on the schedule but I'm told it will need to move up on their priority list.
All of these items should move forward fairly quickly. I will post the schedules once they are set.
They were paving Wild Cherry yesterday. I'm hopeful the Flintrock / Wild Cherry project will be substantially complete by the end of this month. I know that will be a relief for those folks using those roadways.
ZAPCO met in regular session Wednesday. Here is that agenda. All items were approved after some discussion. I also addressed the group and am planning to move the ZAPCO meeting to the evening. I am doing this to enable more participation and attendance from those that work and can't attend the morning meetings. Everyone felt it was a good idea and next month the meeting will be at 6:30 p.m.
The Arts Committee will have a free concert featuring renowned pianist Kiyoshi Tamagawa this Sunday, June 11, 4 to 5 p.m. Here is a link to more info.
AT&T's "It Can Wait" texting simulator will be at the Activity Center Wednesday June 14th. Here is a link to the flyer.
I was also honored to welcome the TAMIO (Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers) conference to Lakeway for a conference at the Lakeway Resort. Several came by the City Hall Friday to let us know how much they enjoyed the City!
We received a copy of our bond rating report from Moody's Investor service. The report confirms our Aa1 rating, and is very complementary of the city's financial management and governance. This rating helps us obtain GREAT rates on any bonds issued.
The start date for the Live Oak Tennis Courts renovation has been pushed back to Monday, June 12 because of the rains - looks like good weather next week.
Park maintenance has also been working at Hamilton Greenbelt to prep the area for the landscapers that will start next week. They will re-open the lower level while that work goes on next week. I don't have a final completion date at this time.
Andra met with Alissa Magrum and they are working to install a life jacket loaner station at the lower level of City Park. This will make it safer for swimmers in that area.
The Hurst Creek overlay project is on schedule for later in the Summer. Parks will be removing the guard shack at City Park that has not been used for 10 years and this will make the entrance much easier to navigate.
