Another week has faded into the history books around the City - lets see what went on. The weather had it's ups and downs this week also, we had warm, windy, rainy and now a beautiful cool day. I show almost a quarter of an inch of rain yesterday and more on the way next week - Texas weather, gotta love it!
Monday was the regular council meeting at City Hall - here is the agenda from that meeting. Item 4 was presentation of the city audit by Singleton, Clark & Company, P.C. This was another GREAT audit with no exceptions or corrections. A special thanks to the Finance Department for their hard work keeping the on the straight and narrow. It certainly is appreciated!
Council approved an Interlocal agreement with the Central Texas Water Coalition. We rely on them to represent the City on water matters with the LCRA and other entities. Although the Lakeway MUD is a member of a coalition of water suppliers, CTWC reports to us on issues we have interest in. We will continue to work with Lakeway MUD on issues they have concerns with. Here is a link to the legislation the MUD is concerned with.
We approved a Special Use Permit for Lakeway Vet (Item 6) to allow them to operate a 24-hour facility at their current location. This will be a great addition to our city and I appreciate Dr. Doyle's interest in performing this service for area pet owners! Go by and check it out!
Item 7 & 8 pertained to a variance request and preliminary plan for the property known as Lakeway Estates on Serene Hills Rd. The property has significant topo issues - the variance allows them a narrow point on a curve on a private drive that serves some of the homes. The variance was granted for 20' instead of the requested 16' and the preliminary plan was also approved. This will be a "large lot" subdivision and I personally think it will be a good project, much better than the previous standard lot community.
Item 9 & 10 - Council approve a new contract with Waste Connections for our Solid Waste and Recycling Service. We had to go out for quotes at the expiration of the previous contract. Although our rates will increase, Waste Connections was significantly below the other bidders. The contract was approved unanimously. Item 10 basically clarified the code and was passed unanimously also.
Item 11 was a budget amendment to fund unplanned expenditures from savings realized so far this year. The two main expenses were the purchase of a parcel of land for City Park that unexpectedly came available and the purchase of a monument sign for the City near Hwy. 71 and Bee Creek Road.
Finally, item 12 was a resolution from Council objecting to SB 2 that is currently being discussed in the Legislature.

Tuesday there was a presentation by the Police Station committee on the new proposed bond and station. We held the first full presentation in council chambers and video'd it - here is a link to the presentation. There was a full house and we have decided to do the same presentation at the other three meetings in the Activity Center that were originally planned as Open Houses. The presentation will be made and questions will be taken at each of those meetings - March 27, April 6 and April 20 - all of which start at 6:30 p.m. Here's a link to more information. There is also a break down of costs on that page. Please take the time to get the facts and hopefully support this project - it is very important for our community.
We also had the first meeting of the Charter Review Committee - I want to thank all the members that have volunteered their time to look at the framework of our City - it is required every 4 years by the City Charter and will take several months.
In my case, the rest of the week was spent on meetings and work on proposed legislation by the legislature. It seems they are intent on taking away the City's ability to make, enforce and pay for city regulations and services.
Here is a link to BDS operations for the week.
Judge Madison is working to make sure the No Texting Bill passes. Here is a link to his report.
The Activity Center is busting at the seams with fun things for citizens - here is a link to the offerings.
