Early Edition - Budget, Burglaries, #BackTheBlue + More!

Another Budget Work Session today at 2PM.  There was an updated presentation by Steve Jones on the FY2017 Proposed Budget.  You can view the meetings here.  Council set the proposed tax rate at $0.1698 per hundred dollars evaluation which we thought was the roll back rate.  Staff has been working hard on the expense side of the budget and has come up with a couple of ideas that were presented to Council.  We feel we will be able to reduce the tax rate to $0.1655, maybe lower.  There will be many options presented at the Public Hearing on August 22 at 2:00PM.

Our SUPER financial guru found an error in the way the County figures our roll back rate - turns out it should be $0.17 per hundred instead of $0.1698.  The County is correcting their mistake!  We are all proud of Julie Oakley for her tremendous efforts keeping us financially straight!

There were 10 auto burglaries last night in the Champions and St. Andrews neighborhoods.  So far all autos were UNLOCKED!
Please, Please lock your cars!  We have a very safe community and we are lulled into the notion that locking vehicles and doors is not necessary - we have a lot of new folks in Lakeway, kids are out of school and many construction workers - let's at least challenge them by locking up!

Lakeway is turning BLUE!  It's working, I'm seeing blue lights and blue ribbons all over the City!  Let's keep it up and show our support.  Still a few lights at City Hall - I've run out of the standard bulbs but you can still get them at Lowe's Bee Cave - I have plenty of the candelabra - the new ones look better than the original - so come by and show your support!

Quit using your cell phones (electronic devices) while you are driving!!!!!  It's dangerous for you and others.  Lakeway Police issued 23 citations and 29 warnings between July 16-31.

Baylor Scott & White will be doing a ribbon cutting at a new clinic on September 20, 2016 from 5:30 to 6:30 PM.  Here is a link to more info.

Travis County Commissioners Court will vote on a new parks plan on Friday August 16th.  Here is a link to the page.  This parks plan includes plans for the property Lakeway has purchased for LTYA use - I hope it's passed!

That's all for today - more this weekend!  Send an email to lakeway@bain.us if you want to be added to the email list!
