Little Sprinkle, School, Council Results and More!

Happy Saturday!  Other than a little sprinkle, it looks like we were shut out on the rain last week.  We got a little over a tenth, barely enough to measure!  Lake Travis is still about 5 feet above average for this time of year, hopefully it will be a wet fall and spring and we'll fill it up.

School starts next week, be sure to observe the School Zones, officers will be out in force to remind you if you don't.  Also remember you can be ticketed for using any electric device while driving in the City on any public road.  This means at stop signs or lights - you must pull off the road to call, text or use your phone or other device - thanks for making the road safer for all of us!

Monday night City Council met in regular session.  Here is a summary of the meeting.  A presentation was given on a Preliminary report by Janis Barlow and Associates on feasibility of a Performing Arts Center somewhere in the City.  The report says a Convention Center was not feasible but possibly an 800 seat Performing Arts Center might be a good fit.  Here is a link to the full report and this is a link to her presentation.  The report was well received by Council and I am planning a "Work Session" for discussion and understanding by myself and Council Members - look for that within the next month or two.  We will also hold meetings for public comment after we understand the full impact - probably in 2 months.  We really need to get our arms around the budget and get that done first.  More on meeting dates as I get them set up.

Mr. Tom DeCicco gave a presentation on a plan to remove the storage facility on the South side of Lohmans Crossing, build another "Indoor Storage Facility" on the North Side of Lohmans Crossing along with a possible road to access the Oaks.  Council told him they would be open to looking at plans so Mr. DeCicco will move a little farther along on this possible project.

Council awarded funds to Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce for an advertising splash they did at the first of Summer when the Lake came up - there is a video and several adds in magazines to let folks know we have a Lake again!

The AFA (Advance Funding Agreement) resolution was approved and funds will be sent to TxDot from the escrow account funded by Ryland Homes to enable the signal construction at Clara Van Road.
=============
Nancy and I attended the under age drinking video "The Unconscious Truth"  in Judge Madison's court Wednesday evening.
He will be showing the film again in the next couple of months - if you have a teenager, it is a well spent hour learning about the issues and consequences of underage drinking.  I'll post the dates for next month as soon as I find them again.

I attended a meeting with representatives from the Hospital, Bee Caves Police, Lakeway Police, and the Hills on Emergency Procedures.  We are trying to set up an EOC (Emergency Operation Center) in conjunction with the Lakeway Regional Medical Center and also the surrounding cities in case of any significant issues.

The City is moving forward with the budget process - we are waiting for the final figures from Travis County but it looks like we will be able to keep the current $.17 tax rate.  The next Budget Work session will be on September 3, 2015 and Council will propose the tax rate.

Lakeway Police are bringing back the "Drug Take-Back Day, so get your old drugs and take them in September 26th to the Lakeway Justice Center from 10 a.m to 2 p.m.  It's a GREAT way to properly dispose of unwanted and unused controlled and over the counter medicines.Here's a link to more info.

Lakeway will honor the "Greatest Geneeration" at the Spirit of '45 Commemoration at 6:30 p.m. at the Lakeway Heritage Center.  Here's a link to all the info!

CBC will be meeting in regular session on August 27th.  Here is that agenda.

That's all for now - have a GREAT weekend!

If you would like to be added to my email list, send a note to lakeway@bain.us and I'll get you fixed up!  Thanks for the interest in our fair City!
