LCRA News, Chessit's Report, New City Secretary

Another week has come to an end and we have a Labor Day Holiday ahead of us - a little cooler weather and even a chance of rain!

LCRA is holding their second WPA Technical Meeting on Sept. 3.  Lakeway is planning on having a representative there to bolster the position of higher trigger points for release of water for irrigation down stream.  Hopefully we will be successful so we can be assured of water availability for firm water customers in the Highland Lakes area.

September is National Preparedness Month, a great time to make sure you are disaster ready.  Here is a link to steps so you are informed and ready for events beyond your control.

From Chessie:
Business in the Municipal Court continues to grow. Court Administrator Ruth Sandoval reports that this week 78 violations were filed by the PD, 9 were filed by the court and 1 was filed by Code Enforcement.  So far for the month of August we have 422 new violations.  Out of the 422,  62 were filed by the court and 9 by CE. The total collections for the week are $18,413.96, including $6,275.20 on warrants. Two dockets were heard this week; a morning docket presided over by Judge Madison with a total of 79 cases, including 16 active warrants that Marshal Overstreet brought in, and an evening docket presided over by Judge Brown with 24 cases.

From Chief Radford:
Lakeway PD participated in the DWI Regional Task Force press conference at Cedar Park PD, and will be organizing increased patrol efforts for the Labor Day weekend.
LPD Officers assisted LTISD with the first week of school by directing traffic at the new middle school, and monitoring traffic flow into the new high school. Considering the amount of cars commuting to both sites, the traffic flowed fairly smooth. Our biggest issue seems to be the afternoon at the middle school. Traffic at that location has backed up all the way to SH71. We will continue to monitor this area and assist as needed; but relief for this issue will only come when the second entrance and the road are completed.
Lakeway PD is now enrolled in the Equitable Sharing program and Unified Financial Management System. This program will allow us to receive seized funds whenever we are involved in investigations with a federal agency. We are currently working on the seizure of $8,500 from a drug related vehicle stop.

Officers made seven arrests this week for the following: Driving while license suspended, driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, and four arrests for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Paul Duncan, PE, reports that the pavement overlay contractor is done with all patch work and edge milling, and will continue to pave on Tuesday.  Hopefully all streets will be completed by Monday, September 8. The contractor on the Brooks Hollow/Explorer drainage project has completed the box culvert replacements at the intersection of Acapulco/Brooks Hollow and Explorer/Brooks Hollow, and is about ¾ of the way done with the storm sewer installation in Explorer.  Next week they’ll continue with the pipe installation and should begin headwall work at the box culverts.

Staff attended several meetings related to potential development this week, including a new single-family residential subdivision south of Flint Rock Road, independent living facilities in Lakeway Medical Village and other locations, and potential commercial development in the Flint Rock Trace area.

Troy Anderson reports that on Thursday the City Building Commission met in regular session and determined view-blocking was not a concern for additions at both 136 Sailor’s Run and 311 Hurst Creek Road.  The Commission also approved rocks in the right-of-way at 612 Peterson Lane with the condition that a palm tree planted without a permit be relocated so as to comply with the 8’ setback from the hard surface of the street.

Next Wednesday the Zoning & Planning Commission will meet in regular session. The agenda includes requests for approval of new monument and building signs for Vibra Rehabilitation Hospital located at 2000 Medical Drive and Austin Automotive Specialists at 303 Ranch Road 620 South, a request for approval of R-1 and R-3 zoning on vacant/undeveloped property along Rupen Drive between Sailmaster and Cutty Trail (570 Rupen Drive), a request for a Special Use Permit for a gas station on the northeast corner of Ranch Road 620 South and Debba Drive (1303 RR 620 N) and a request for approval of a final plat for Lakeway Highlands Phase 1 Section 8A, located north of Highlands Boulevard and west of Peninsula Way.

City Secretary Jo Ann Touchstone began work for the city today.  We are all looking forward to working with her!

That's all for today, thanks for all the support!  If you would like to be included on my email list that I send out when I make a post please send an email to lakeway@bain.us
