Well, I took a week off and now I'm really behind! Let's get started!
Let me remind you that the Lakeway "SingAlongs" are doing their Spring Dinner Show next week! Here's a flyer with all the info about the show - Call Joann Anderson at 512-261-3313 to reserve your seats and buy tickets. You'll see some of the "Stars" of Lakeway - it should be a GREAT show!
Week before last:
Lexus of Lakeway has broken ground at their new location on 620. Construction fence is up and they are clearing the property as of last week.
Recovery Ways is moving forward with their lawsuit against the City and Deputy City Manager has been completing responses to the first set of interrogatories and production requests.
There is a new developer who is interested in requesting R-3 zoning for an undeveloped tract on Rupen Lane and has met with Troy about the procedures.
Last week a routine traffic stop at 620 and Lakeway Blvd. led to the seizure of marijuana and hash oil and the arrest of two suspects on felony possession charges. The K9 was deployed during an investigatory stop in the Chair King parking lot. The K9 alerted on the vehicle, and the subsequent search resulted in the seizure of a small amount of marijuana. A subject was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and will appear in municipal court.
Officers responded to an attempted suicide on Brooks Hollow. A subject was transported to Round Rock Hospital for further treatment and a mental health commitment.
Officers responded to a major collision in the 1900 block of 620. Three vehicles were involved, and three people were transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The actual cause is unknown, but it appears that one car drifted into the center turn lane hitting the second vehicle, which was pushed into the opposing traffic hitting the third car.
An officer made a custody arrest of a driver who was operating a vehicle with 12 active suspensions on his license.
================
ZAPCO will meet in special session Monday the 21st to reconsider a zoning request and SUP for a storage facility on 620. Here is that agenda.
City Council will meet on Monday the 21st also - it looks like there will be a lot of business this month! Here is that agenda.
CBC will be meeting on April 24th - here is that agenda.
As I told you previously, I went to the LCRA meeting in Bee Caves a couple of weeks ago and saw their presentation on their requested rate increase. The surprise was State Senator Troy Fraser who also made a presentation - and a good one! Here is a link of his calling out the LCRA to get their act together, his part starts around the 13:15 mark. Take the time to listen to the presentation - it brings some sense to what's going on with our dwindling Lake Travis!
I attended the CAMPO meeting Monday evening and although they pulled most of the agenda items on projects, there was a good discussion on processes and how items are judged and rated with a points system. I think we are on a trajectory that might lead to some improvements in our road system - but it is early yet. Lots of the Board members are looking at the lack of infrastructure in Travis County and surrounding areas.
Lakeway Police are launching their Lock It or Lose It Campaign. There has been some property loss were folks are leaving their valuables in area vehicles and the Police are hoping to get residents to work with them to stop these thefts. Here is a flyer and information about the campaign.
From Steve Jones:
We reviewed close to thirty applications for the HR position, and interviewed three very well qualified candidates. I am thrilled to announce that the city has offered this position to Wendy Askey in BDS, and she has accepted. Before coming to work for the city, Wendy spent several years in the corporate banking industry, where her duties included human resources. She will train her replacement in BDS over the next few weeks, and will assume the HR Manager duties full-time on April 28. Please join me in congratulating her!
A citizen’s wallet is believed to have been stolen from a diaper bag at City Park during Eggstravaganza. A credit card in the wallet was used to make fraudulent charges.
A traffic stop on 620 resulted in the seizure of a small amount of marijuana. Both occupants of the vehicle were court summoned for possession of marijuana.
Officers responded twice to an intoxicated and abusive female guest at the Lakeway Resort. The intoxicated woman was arrested for disorderly conduct. She spat at officers repeatedly, which resulted in her being charged with harassment of a public servant (third degree felony).
Officers were dispatched twice in the same day to disturbances between father and adult son on Tavish Trail, involving a handgun. The father advised the 9-1-1 call taker that his son was threatening him with a weapon, but then refused to tell the officers who arrived on scene the same thing. No arrests were made; the gun was removed from the home by a friend.
A Cadillac Escalade was discovered on the side of a cliff at the Lakeway Resort Condominiums. The only thing keeping the Escalade from falling down the cliff and into the lake was a cedar tree that it had come to rest against. The Escalade was unoccupied. LPD and LTFR spent almost five hours removing the vehicle. The driver was eventually located and reported that he had accidentally driven the Escalade off the cliff several hours prior. The driver was issued a court summons for minor in consumption of alcohol.
Officers responded to a residence on Lakeway Blvd. on report of shots fired. The officers located a pistol outside of the residence, a spent casing, and a bullet in the ground. Officers were unable to determine who had fired the shot. The gun, casing, and bullet were seized as evidence.
The City of Lakeway’s debut of its Road Show Booth was a success at Eggstravaganza! Devin estimated that roughly 200 people went through all four stations at the both where they learned about wildfire safety, public safety, recycling, and Parks and Rec’s summer movie schedules and LAC kids’ classes. The Wildfire Steering Committee discovered that many children were unaware of what a wildfire is, so the thought is to ask the school district if presentations to their students would be possible. The new bike bottles and tote bags featuring the city logo and website address were a hit. The booth’s debut went well enough that Devin would like to have one at the city’s July 4th Celebration and Goblin Glow.
Officer Barto and Devin Monk put out a press release today on Lock It or Lose It to encourage the public to lock their vehicles and either hide their valuables or take them with them when they exit their vehicle.
A committee of the Visitors Commission is currently interviewing consultants to perform a feasibility and market analysis for a future conference/event center. We hope to have a proposal and recommendation ready for the commission’s consideration at their meeting on May 12.
Due to the possibility of the drought continuing for two or more years, I have started drafting an ordinance that would regulate water use and development activity in the event of catastrophically low water reserves. While the possibility of that occurring is low, I believe it is in the city’s best interest to be prepared.
I had a good meeting with Dale DeLong and Paul Duncan this week to develop a plan for implementing our pavement management program. Using the Sledge Engineering report, we will begin repairing and restoring the worst streets this summer. We believe that, within two to three years, we can have all of our streets up to “fair” condition or better. From there on, routine maintenance should be all that is required. We believe it is possible to fund the program with our current road maintenance sales tax and typical budget allocations.
Looks like that's all for now - enjoy the Easter Holiday and have a safe weekend!
