Big week in Lakeway! Let's get started.
We had a large grass fire on Kaden Way on March 12th. Here are some pictures courtesy of Robert Bennett. The fire was started by a welding ignition source and quickly escalated to 2.5 acres because of the high winds. Lake Travis Fire and Rescue was able to contain the fire and only one home was evacuated. No home sustained any damage. Lakeway Police aided the effort and helped keep everyone safe.
Lake Travis Fire Rescue reminds the community to maintain a defensible space around their home. As you can see in the attached pictures some of the homes had maintained landscapes and were clear of heavy vegetation against or close to the structures. To learn more about building a defensible space and how your neighborhood can build a Fire Wise community contact Lake Tavis Fire Rescue at 512-266-2533 or visit www.ltfr.org today!
Vibra Rehabilitation Hospital of Lake Travis will open this summer in the facilities behind the Post Office. They will do long term acute care and long term medical rehabilitation. I expect to see some activity there soon!
Julie Oakley The auditors of the City reports that the auditors of the City have given the financial statements for the year ended September 30, 2013, an unmodified opinion. This is a ‘clean’ opinion which means that a city's financial records and statements are fairly and appropriately presented, and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Also, the audit did not reveal any deficiencies in internal controls.
Council meets Monday March 17th at 6:30 in Council Chambers. Here is a link to the agenda. Two items of special interest include a Special Use Permit for a child care facility at 1501 Lohmans Crossing and another for a Special Use Permit for a drive thru for a fried chicken restaurant in the Hospital District.
The next "Big Band Bash" is April 14th. Here is a link to more information.
Troy Anderson reports that on Tuesday he spoke at the local DAR Chapter meeting, informing them of some of the large scale projects on the books and in the works. Thursday’s CBC meeting was short, with only one item on the agenda, a request for the use of faux grass as a landscape feature around a single-family dwelling; CBC approved the request.
Chief Radford reports:
PATROL:
Officers responded to a brush fire on Kaden way. The fire was controlled by LTFR and no injuries or structural damage occurred.
LPD officers arrested 6 for DWI; 4 felony DWI, 2 DWI as a result of crashes in the intersection of Lohman’s and RR 620 (one ended up in the CVS parking lot, after initially colliding with cars in the Lohman’s and RR 620 intersection. Amazing that no one was seriously injured.)
LPD officers arrested two juveniles on state jail felony charges for possession of hash oil, in two separate incidents.

The next City Wide Garage Sale is April 19th at the Activity Center from 8 to 12. As usual admission is free but the organizers do ask for a canned food item for their charity drive.
That's all for today - I'm missing the CAMPO meeting Monday because they changed the schedule and it conflicts with this month's meeting - looks like I'll be ok the rest of the year!
Thanks for your interest in the City information - please let your friends know and get them to sign up on my email list!
