From Steve Jones:
We interviewed three promising candidates for the new City Marshal position this week. Thon Overstreet accepted our offer of employment, and will start work on February 3. Mr. Overstreet is a well respected, retired officer from the Dallas Police Department and has had a long career in law enforcement. We believe he is the ideal person to establish and administer the marshal’s office.
The Flint Rock Road rehabilitation project is still on track. We are evaluating a contractor for services in obtaining property for needed additional right of way, and we plan to begin negotiation with property owners in a few weeks.
I am happy to announce that we have hired a new Administrative Assistant to the executive staff. Deena Lindamood begins work on Monday. Deena was the administrative assistant to the Mayor in Calabasas California for many years, and is thoroughly qualified for the position. Prior to that, she was a paralegal at the University of Texas. Deena is a native Texan and is happy to be home. Her mother and sister live in the Austin area.
You may have noticed that the street signs for Flint Rock Road are confusing. There are two Flint Rock Roads, and one of them is mismarked as Flint Rock Trace. Public works has ordered new street name signs and will correct the problem soon.
Public works will soon be taking traffic counts on Lohmans Spur near its intersection with Lohmans Crossing. We will evaluate the traffic at this location to determine if it is close to warranting a traffic signal. I do not believe it is, but I would like to monitor traffic at the intersection as it increases over time. We plan to do the same thing at Serene Hills Drive and State Highway 71.
From Chief Radford:
Officers responded to a disturbance on Sailmaster. During their investigation, they seized a small amount of marijuana. One of the residents was charged for the marijuana, while another was arrested on a theft warrant.
Officers responded to and confronted an aggressive pit bull that was at large and displaying aggressive behavior. The responding officer drew his weapon when the dog threatened a child. The officer was able to distract the dog and capture it without discharging his firearm.
Police K9 was deployed during a routine traffic stop on RR 620. The K9 alerted on the vehicle and a search followed. The driver and a passenger of the vehicle were eventually arrested for possession of methamphetamine, heroin, clonazepam, hydrocodone, alprazolam, and amphetamine.
Detective Proctor interviewed a suspect in some local vehicle burglaries. The Austin Police Department found this individual to be in possession of a stolen handgun. A Lakeway resident reported the handgun as being stolen from their vehicle, which was parked outside their residence one night in August. Detective Proctor was able to obtain a confession from the suspect that links him to four vehicle burglaries that occurred the same night.
Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Four Points Chamber of Commerce invite all the communities to the south of Lake Travis to a CAMPO Mobile Meeting at 7 p.m. January 27 at Austin Christian Fellowship Student Center, 6401 River Place Blvd, Austin, TX 78730. This meeting will be much like CAMPO’s mobile meeting here where they received input from citizens regarding transportation projects and plans that should be considered in the revision of their long-range transportation plan, the CAMPO 2040 Plan. Local participation is very important if we want to have an impact on the 2040 Plan, so please attend if you can and invite others.

As Steve Jones reported above, the City has hired a new City Marshal. This position will be charged with serving and clearing City warrants. Soooo, if you have outstanding tickets or warrants, it would probably be a good time to take care of them! Mr. Overstreet was the top applicant out of approximately 15 applicants and 3 highly qualified finalists. Mr. Overstreet retired as a Lieutenant with the Dallas Police Department, with over 29 years of service. He has worked a number of tactical supervisory commands within the Dallas Police Department, which is one of the most respected police departments in the United States.
Travis County is alerting the public that the next phase of road construction on Bee Creek Road will require traffic controls for about five months. The contractor has finished work on the signals at SH 71 and Bee Creek Road and completed initial work on all culverts along Bee Creek Road. Beginning Monday, Jan. 27, work will shift to the east side of the road from SH 71 to north of the new Lake Travis Middle School. Near Highlands Boulevard Circle, work will occur on the west side of the road. Temporary striping will be used to mark driving lanes and one lane of traffic will be open in each direction. Flaggers may be used as necessary to accommodate delivery vehicles and construction activities. This traffic control will remain in place for approximately 5 months. Here is a link to more info.
