Budget, Photo Festival, HelpOurWounded.org Gala

It looks like the Budget is pretty much done, the Council Work session for Monday Sept. 9th has been canceled.  The budget will be accepted at the Council meeting on Sept. 16th.  As previously reported, the tax rate will be $0.1748 per $100 evaluation.  Thanks to the staff for spending our money wisely!

The Flint Rock Road project is moving along, here is an animated fly over of the finished product.  Try it out!

Mark your calendars, there will be a "Lakeway on the Move" photo festival at the Library showcasing the city's history and arts.  The festival kicks off with an opening reception from 4-6 PM Sept. 29th at the Library meeting room.  Here is a link to more information.

ZAPCO met Wednesday in regular session, here is that agenda.  Most of the controversial items were delayed and they approved an additional location for a banner for Lakeway Church.  The lighted sign for the high school was discussed and put off until some more questions could be answered.  A presentation was made on the new Ethics Ordinance passed at the last council meeting.

There will be a Firewise Field Day to target greenbelt cleanup - here is a link to more information.

Save the date!!!  There will be a New Years Eve Gala at the Lakeway Inn benefiting "HelpOurWounded.Org" from 7:30PM until 12:30 AM in the Rio Grande Ballroom.  Cocktails, Dinner and Dancing to the Funk Factory - tickets are $100 and $150 for VIP who will be invited to a Pre-Party and recognition.  More on this soon!

Tomorrow, Saturday the 7th of Sept. is the Annual Public Safety Day put on by Lakeway's finest!  Here's a link to more information.  It's a great place to take the kids and to go see the way all of the departments work and meet the officers.

From Steve Jones:
Chief Radford reports:
Monday afternoon LPD officers responded to a physical disturbance between a man and a woman on Lakeway Boulevard that had originated in The Hills.  The male was arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest, resisting arrest, assault, and criminal trespass.

The patrol division investigated four collisions, one of which involved injuries.  LPD also assisted BCPD with two collisions.

Our K9 got her first arrest.  Officer Sam Smith ran Cory on a vehicle during a routine traffic stop in which the driver was behaving suspiciously.  Cory alerted on the vehicle and a subsequent search resulted in the seizure of a small amount of marijuana.

Detective Proctor identified a suspect in an aggravated robbery case that reportedly occurred at Dragon Park.

Officer Gavit has located a suspect in the theft of groceries that occurred at Randall’s and will serve the warrant in the next few days.

From Troy Anderson:
This week, the Zoning Commission recommended approval of two code amendments.  The first limited sign design to the use of “earth-tone colors,” and the second was a provision authorizing LTISD to use a monochromatic electronic message board.  The approval of the sign itself was postponed to the next regularly scheduled meeting, as the applicant was not available for questioning.

Also postponed were the amendment to the Tuscan Village Planned Unit Development Land Use Regulations and the proposed code amendment establishing a new zoning district titled C-4 Auto Sales and Service.

Representatives from the auditor’s office were at city hall this week conducting interim work in preparation for the annual audit.  This week’s tasks focused on spot-checking for compliance with local policies and industry standards.  The finance department staff provided all requested items, and Chessie met with the representative for a routine discussion about fraud and accountability.

Staff is putting the final touches on the FY 2014 budget in preparation for the September council meeting.  Please expect an emailed list of final changes on Monday, and plan to drop off your budget books Monday or Tuesday so that we can add the final pages.

Chessie has been invited to speak at a TML Region 10 event in Caldwell next week.  She will be joining Brad Young and Steven Weller from Bickerstaff Heath and Carla Robinson, City Attorney for College Station, in a panel discussion about annexation.

Plans are being reviewed for the previously approved condominium development in Rough Hollow.  Assuming the site plan complies with all applicable ordinances and regulations, a site development permit will probably be issued within the next few weeks.

I met with representatives of Texas Gas Service this week to discuss a franchise agreement that will allow them to provide natural gas service in Lakeway.  This project has been on-again off-again for many months, and it looks like we are on again.  Texas Gas intends to serve the Serene Hills subdivision, and may provide service in other subdivisions as opportunities arise.

Public Safety Day is tomorrow from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the old Lakeway Elementary parking lot on RR 620 at Kollmeyer Drive.  For details click here!

CBC will meet next Thursday in regular session - here is that agenda.

I hope everyone has a GREAT weekend!  More as I find out!
