Holiday Update!

How about that Independence Day!  The festivities were GREAT weren't they?  We had wonderful co-Grand Marshals, Major Shelly Mendieta USAF and Major MIchael Mendieta USMC that made the celebration of our country's independence and our parade even more spectacular!  Thank you!

Thanks to Andra Dearing, Parks and Recreation Director, City Staff and all of the fantastic volunteers that enabled all of the festivities to come off without a hitch!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We had a Army National Guard helicopter that overflew the parade route and an F-18 flyover to make the event even more special!  Thank you to those that made this possible!

The Pageant of the Flags featured a keynote address by Majors Michael and Shelly Mendieta, patriotic music that was wonderful from our own Wildflowers and courtyard music provided by the Lake Travis Fiddlers.

The Lakeway Swim Center had a GREAT crowd and is now open for the Summer.  Next door the Clock Party and Concert featuring the band Duck Soup was a huge hit.  the tent was full and dance floor was packed as folks enjoyed the music.  On site also was a superslide, a quad jump and LaserTag.  What a GREAT Day!
==============
ZAPCO met on Thursday because of the holiday and had a REAL short agenda!  Two items that was shortened to one when one of them was pulled at the last minute.  Here is the agenda.  The Marina's permanent sign was approved.

Next week CBC meets on Thursday, July 12.  Here is that agenda.  Looks like a house was built higher than their height permit although they had been notified by staff - it will be an interesting meeting.

The next Lakeway Blood Drive is Saturday July 21.  Please call or email Searcy Willis at swillis1@austin.rr.com or 512-261-9055.

Monday July 9, from 8 to 10 pm the next Big Band Bash continues at the Activity Center.  It's free for your enjoyment, bring your own refreshments!

If you pay your electric bill to Austin Electric, you might want to get involved with an organization known as Homeowners United for Rate Fairness (HURF) who are leading an effort to file such a petition with the PUC and challenge the rate increase.  Suburban customers who would like to sign the petition can do so by contacting HURF at www.hurf.org.  Lakeway residents can also sign petitions at Lakeway City Hall, 1102 Lohmans Crossing, and the Lakeway Activity Center at 105 Cross Creek Drive, Lakeway, Texas, 78734.

From Chessie Blanchard:
Chief Radford reports that the PD had 11 fireworks calls on the 4th.  The City has a zero tolerance for fireworks with the current drought conditions and expects more incidents this weekend.

Lake Travis Fire and Rescue is interested in locating some temporary facilities in Serene Hills - they have purchased a couple of acres and want to establish a presence.  This looks like it would be a great benefit to the greater community!

Several residential home builders are talking to the staff about trying to streamline the City's processes and timelines for permits.  The ordinances were designed for custom homes and they want to make changes to help volume builders - staff will look at whether this would benefit the City.

Lakeway Church has started on their new driveway from Lohman's Crossing.  The approved plans include an 8 foot screening wall along the property line as required by ordinance, but they are expressing an interest in changing that to a wooden fence.  This is opposed by neighbors and they have not responded with their intentions.

Here's a link to a narration by Lew Carlson about the Liebelt Cabin - learn about some of our history!

That's all for now, more as I find out!
