September 11, Weather, Women's Club, Council and More!

*****September 11, Special Meaning*****
This is an important day.  For those of you in my age group, I'm sure you remember the shock of seeing planes crash into the World Trade Centers in New York followed by the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.  343 Firefighters, 60 Police Officers, 8 EMT's and 2997 Civilians lost their lives the day we were attacked.  I'm not going to post pictures of the event, but I am posting a link to the Budweiser commercial that aired only once - it is a fitting tribute to the men and women that lost their lives.  Click here to see that tribute.  Take a moment to think about those that lost their lives that day and those that risked everything to help others.

*****Weather*****

Well, it almost rained here yesterday.  I expect some got a shower - it was all around us.  Maybe today!  Not quite as hot - high yesterday was only 96.8°!  Lake Travis is currently at 675.08, about 6 feet below full.  Here's a link to all the current lake levels.

*****Women's Club of Greater Lakeway*****

They're Moving!  The Women’s Club of Greater Lakeway announces a venue change to Flintrock Falls Country Club for the 2019-20 year. The first meeting is Monday, September 23. Membership is open to residents of Lakeway, the Lakeway ETJ, and The Hills. For more information, go to https://www.lakewaywomensclub.com/

*****Council Special Meeting*****
Council met in Special Session for a Budget ++ meeting Monday.  Here is a link to the agenda/packetHere's a link to the video.  Set a record, it was only 2.5 hours.

3)  Julie Oakley presented the FY2020 Proposed Budget.  There was discussion about the $600K from the police bond - after a meeting with the bond attorney it was determined that the money could not be used on the M&O for the police facility but could be used for Public Safety projects.  Seems to me they could repay some of the bond, but I'm not sure what can be done.  They did decide they could use it for Fire mitigation along Hamilton Greenbelt.

4)  Public Hearing on proposed tax rate.  Some discussion on what it would take to raise the rate to the rollback rate.  One citizen spoke and said they need to raise the rate as much as possible because more money was needed.

5)  Andra (Parks and Rec Director) was given permission to ask LCC for funding to update the Heritage Center, Pool Office and some exercise boards.

6)  Abolishing the City Marshal position was put off until later.

7)  Infamous Executive Session to talk about the Cherry Knoll lawsuits.  That is moving along, I have had some calls from the attorney to ask questions.

8)  Executive session about City Manager - after this session, Julie was appointed "Interim City Manager" and was given a 10% raise.  Congratulations!
