Rain and More Rain, Meetings and More!

Here we go again!  5-7 inches of rain expected in the next few days, it is still August, right?  Slow down in the wet weather - and even when it's not wet!

The most frequent comment / complaint I get is about the traffic and speeding!  Why not slow down and enjoy Lakeway - the speed limits haven't changed in years - 30 MPH on Lakeway Blvd. and Lakeway Dr., lets learn to obey the limits.  We have children, pets and deer out on the streets - please slow down.

Staff has been diligently working on the budget since the first work session.  Monday will see the first public hearing - I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised!  Your City Staff and elected officials are working had to get the citizens the best services they expect for a reasonable cost.  Here is the agenda for the meeting Monday.

ZAPCO will also have a special meeting on Monday morning to hear a request on signage for the new owners of the Hospital - here is that agenda.

CBC will meet in regular session at 9:00 AM on Thursday.  Here is the agenda.  Looks like they will have a busy day on Thursday, several variances and waivers and view blocking items.

Looks like we are nearing opening of several new tenants at the Oaks of Lakeway.  McAuthurs Restaurant and Torchy's Tacos is scheduled this fall, Trattoria, a casual Tuscan cuisine restaurant and Hat Creek Burgers for a few.  LaQuinta Hotels is planning on starting construction by the end of the year.  It looks to be a busy year over there!

There is also a new upscale restaurant at Hudson Bend I have heard good reviews about - check out 827 Rays Kitchen!

The Library's new Bookmobile has arrived!  They will be holding an open house on Friday, August 26th from 3-6 PM.  go by and see their new vehicle!

With the monsoon we experienced last week the City did experience some rain induced issues.  The Mansions at Lakeway experienced some retaining wall failures and their storm water pond.
Some of our streams were overwhelmed also - Lakeway Blvd. was closed for a short time near Lake Chandon, Lakeway Dr. was also closed  for a while and new culverts at Coldwater were overwhelmed too.  Just too much rain in a short period of time!

Council met Monday in regular session - here was the agenda.  We received a presentation about the Zika Virus that was very informative, item 5 regarding a SUP for the Private School was pulled by the school and delayed until next month.  We approved an ordinance adopting the 2015 International Building Codes - this moves us up to the latest edition and will improve our insurance ratings next time they are reviewed hopefully.

We removed the cap from first offense texting and cell phone use violations and also approved an amendment requested by ClubCorp Golf so the purchase of the Live Oak tennis courts can proceed.

An amendment was approved to the FY2016 Budget that allows us to use savings accrued from this year to purchase some capital items this year that will ease the pressure on next years budget.

We also approved a Meeting Decorum Policy that will make it easier for citizens to understand the rules when attending and participating in meetings.  Here is the policy handout that was passed with the addition of "committees".

That's all for this morning - more as I hear it!
