Spelling Bee, Council, Recycle Center, Weeks Happenings and More!

Here we are, the week before Christmas - the weather is beautiful, 60 degrees and sunny.  The Lakes are nearly full and Lakeway is a GREAT place to be!

I was honored to call words for the Spelling Bee at Serene Hills Elementary last week.  It was amazing - we went through the entire list of 275 words and had gone through the first couple of pages of the "Additional Words" list.  Thanks to the Serene Hills Elementary staff and a special thanks to Kathy Austrian for making this possible!

Still seeing misinformation on the deer on social media - for the record, nets are dropped by a trapper and deer are immediately removed and put into trailers for transport.  Deer are never left in the nets for any length of time.  The reports that a trapper beat a deer with a club was investigated by a Game Warden (not affiliated with the City).  He contacted the person that started the rumor at home and at work and they refused to give any statement.  The case has been closed as unfounded.  We have been in contact with the USDA / APHIS organization to investigate and possibly develop a protocol to enable an "Urban Census" in cities like Lakeway.  Any other questions, please see last week's post or the video of the Texas Parks and Wildlife presentation.

Monday, Steve Jones, Julie Oakley, County Commissioner Gerald Daugherty, County Staff and I toured the household hazardous waste and recycling center.  I will publish the proposed schedule of drop off dates soon for the new year.

Chessie Zimmerman has been busy with developers - two with interest in the 82 acres for sale by the Lakeway MUD and also with a group proposing an assisted living and memory care facility on the Commercial lot at Bella Montagna.
