From Steve Jones:
City Marshal, Thon Overstreet, has resigned. Marshal Overstreet did a great job of establishing the office and getting the program off to a good start. He is leaving the city with a solid foundation on which to build going forward. We appreciate his hard work and dedication to Lakeway and wish him the best of luck as he moves on to other endeavors. We are advertising the opening and expect to have many qualified candidates.
Mayor DeOme and I met with Jeff Muller, General Manager of Club Corp, last week to discuss plans for the four tennis courts that the city leases from them. In lieu of extending the lease, Club Corp would like to sell the courts to the city. Mr. Muller is working on a sales price that we anticipate to be in the $250K range.
We encountered a difficulty in the Flint Rock Road project. It appears that WCID 17’s water and sewer lines are not deep enough to accommodate reconstruction of the road, and large portions of the lines must be lowered or relocated. This was not anticipated by the water district, and it does not have the funding to pay for relocation. The district has been aware of the project, but they believed that their facilities were buried deep enough.
I have been working with TxDOT on options to reduce traffic congestion on RM 620, and this week we settled on a project that we believe would make a significant improvement. The proposal is to add an additional lane of traffic on southbound 620 from Lohmans Crossing to the north entrance of the high school. This would move 50% more of the southbound traffic through the signals at Lohmans Crossing, Lohmans Spur, and Flint Rock Road. TxDOT estimates the project would cost about $1.5 million.
Last week, Chessie attended the monthly CAMPO Technical Advisory Committee meeting. Among other items, the group discussed the criteria and process for selecting projects to be funded in the current STP-MM call for projects, discussed the process for developing a recommended scenario of projects for the 2040 Regional Transportation Plan, and heard a presentation from Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) featuring preliminary findings from the CAMPO-commissioned 2012 Congestion Data Collection and Analysis. This report should be final by the end of the month.
