Holiday Events, Council, The Lake and More!

It's the Holidays!  It's been a fairly slow week but there are a few things going on and coming up.

First, Council meets Monday evening in regular session.  It appears that 4 members will be present and Mayor Pro Tem Dave Taylor will preside.  There is only one action item on the agenda - a request from the owner of approximately 4 acres of land located at 15505 Clara Van Trail to vacate an existing plat of the property.  Of course, there will be a financial report also.  This looks to be a short meeting!

Judge Madison received an "AV Preeminent" Rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Legal Directory for 2014.  Here is a link to more information - congrats Judge!

The "Sing Alongs" held their annual Christmas show last Sunday to a packed Activity Center!  There was a wonderful outpouring of support including hundreds of gifts and quite a bit of cash to help area kids have a merry Christmas this year.  A huge "Thank You" to all those that worked tirelessly to make this happen!  And yes, the REAL Santa and Mrs. Clause were there to see the kids!

On Dec. 10, 2013, LCRA sent a request for emergency drought relief to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). If approved, the relief would cut off Highland Lakes water for most downstream farmers in 2014 unless the combined storage of lakes Travis and Buchanan improves significantly before March 1, 2014.

TCEQ is expected to consider the request in early 2014. If approved, LCRA would withhold Highland Lakes water from the Lakeside, Gulf Coast and Pierce Ranch irrigation operations in 2014 if the combined storage of lakes Travis and Buchanan is less than 1.1 million acre-feet (about 55 percent of capacity) at 11:59 p.m. on March 1. Combined storage on Dec. 10 was about 752,000 acre-feet (37 percent of capacity).

There was  a fatal crash on 620 where a truck left the road and hit a tree.  This is all I have on this and do not have confirmation from the Police - more later.

The Cav's made a valiant effort but were defeated Saturday in their quest for a 5A state championship.  They have done a GREAT job this year and I for one am looking forward to next years schedule!

The "Leadership Lake Travis" group sponsored by the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce had their "Retail / Economic Development" day in the area.  Speakers from Bee Cave, The Galleria, Shops at the Galleria and the City of Lakeway entertained the group and there was a tour of Mansfield Dam - it was a spectacular day!  This is a great way to meet people and become involved with the community - for more information here is a link to the Chamber's site.

The annual Police Gala was held at the Lakeway Resort and Spa Friday and was a fundraiser benefiting  the Lakeway Police Foundation that supports our officers.  It was a wonderful event and raised much needed funds to support the police - thanks to all of you for your support.

And last but not least - please support the New Years Party that supports HelpOurWounded.org to enable them to care for and support our veterans in need - there is still some room left.  Sign up and join us for a GREAT New Years Event right here in Lakeway!

That's all for now - have a Merry Christmas and be safe this Holiday Season - ??Snow for Christmas??
