Golden Anniversary, Heritage Week, Other Updates

It's Lakeway's Golden Anniversary this year!  Lots of events are planned throughout the year.  Here's a link to the schedule.  You will also find a link on the "quick links" at the top right of the blog page!

Nest week is "Heritage Week"!  Come and celebrate Lakeway’s first 50 years at the Heritage Center, April 15-19.  The center located at 963 Lohmans Crossing will be open from 9AM-3PM with exhibits highlighting our heritage.  If you are an old timer, come and reminisce and if you are new to Lakeway, come and see how we got to where we are today.

CBC met this week in regular session.  Here is a link to that agenda.  Most items were fairly benign, the one variance was for a front facing garage and the applicant was allowed to have doors 40 degrees from street facing.

The "Deer Committee" met this week to discuss the years trapping and plans for next year.  93 deer were trapped this year and it looks like the deer population is fairly stable.  The number of deer hit by cars has dropped significantly.  The committee is working to possibly shorten the trapping season next year and are looking at other cost saving items.

City Council will meet Monday evening at 6:30PM in Council Chambers.  Here is that agenda.  If you really don't have anything to do this beautiful weekend, here is a link to the data in the Council Members packets.  It is large so be patient!

Andra Dearing has been working on QC Codes for all of the parks - they will give you a map of the park if you have a smartphone.  I expect more on this next week.

From Chessie Zimmerman:
I am pleased to report that the City of Lakeway has received the Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle Gold Star award for the 4th year in a row! This designation recognizes the city’s commitment to financial transparency.  Kudos to the Finance Department for their hard work in achieving this honor!

This week, several key staff members attended an emergency management tabletop exercise organized by Don Stevenson, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.  This event featured a scenario developed by the Travis County Office of Emergency Management, and was also attended by representatives from Lake Travis ISD, Lake Travis Fire and Rescue, Red Cross, Austin-Travis County EMS, Travis County Sherriff’s Office, and the Lakeway Regional Medical Center.

From Dale DeLong, Public Works Director:
Clean-up on the new reuse and recycle site was completed this week.
While last week’s heavy rainfall was a welcome sight it did create some drainage issues around the City. We will be working on addressing some of these issues in the near future. All the guide arrows and stop bars were re-painted at the following intersections: Lakeway Blvd @ Lohmans Crossing; Lakeway Blvd @ Lakeway Dr.; Lakeway Blvd @ RR620 and areas in North Lakeway.

From Todd Radford, Chief of Police:
Spring is here and call volume seems to be ramping up . We had three officers and command staff personnel off this week with illness or surgeries. All seem to be recovering nicely and should be back to work next week. Chief Radford held departmental meetings including agenda items like school safety, self-aid/buddy-aid medical kits and the department’s evolving wellness program.

On a daily basis, the patrol team drives through each of the school parking lots located in the city of Lakeway at least twice a shift. If an officer has a school in his beat, he also walks the campus once a day for 15 minutes. The random patrols and visits are intended to achieve an enhanced interaction between LPD officers and the staff of each school, and the kids will get used to seeing a blue uniform around campus. This opportunity will also allow for officers to become more familiar with the buildings designs. This tactic is nothing new as we do this in other businesses, but this is the first time we have done this with our schools.
=====================

If you haven't seen be Bluebonnets yet - it's time!  So far this year, the best I've seen is between here and Llano on Hwy. 71.  Parts of the trip you will see a solid band on each side of the road for miles - beautiful!

Thanks for looking!
