City Info and Area News!

Council Member Dave Taylor sent me a note saying the new Holiday Inn Express is and has been open now for about 3 weeks.  He said everything looks good and they are doing well!  It should be a good addition for Lakeway - go by and check it out!

The Lakeway Visitors Commission will meet Monday, February 12 at 9:00AM at City Hall.  Here is that agenda.  They will be discussing a Request for Proposal (RFP) that contains City Branding Elements.  Here is a draft of that proposal.

CBC will meet in regular session Thursday, Feb. 14th at 9AM at City Hall.  Here is that agenda.

From Steve Jones;

Work is progressing on interlocal agreements between the City and Travis County for the Flint Rock Road project and Bee Creek Road projects - they should be on the agenda for Feb. 19th.

The City Attorney is working on a draft of an ordinance making Lakeway Blvd. East of Lohmans Crossing a no-through-truck route.  This will force heavy trucks to use Lohmans to access the City.

The Attorney is also drafting a new ethics ordinance.  The current ethics code is unnecessarily complicated and he is making the code much simpler.

There are now two radar speed limit signs up, one on Lakeway Blvd. and the other on Lohmans.  They alert drivers to the fact they are speeding and also count traffic and record vehicle speeds.  We already have some interesting information!

Judge Madison and Jo Anne Wiley are working to raise money to install a "lighted crosswalk" on Lohmans Crossing at the Elementary school.  This would mean LED lights are installed in the street and would make the crosswalk much more visible than the painted crosswalk.

Chief Court Clerk Ruth Sandoval reported there are 38 defendants for court Friday, with 32 set for arraignment and 16 set for show cause issues.  Looks like a busy day at the courthouse!

Chessie Zimmerman reported that staff has been working on two "open records requests"  and have finished those.

She and Troy Anderson met with a land use attorney regarding the potential development of the Glen Heather subdivision.

All ZAPCO agenda items were approved including a special use permit for a drive-through facility associated with a proposed Scholtzky's restaurant and a final plat for a new residential area in Serene Hills.  Both of those items will be on the Council agenda this month.

Per Julie Oakley, the Hotel Occupancy taxes amounted to $75,504 for the last quarter receipts.

 In area news, the Mexican Restaurant Los Cucos in Bee Caves was purchased by the Galleria and they are cleaning up the site and looking for a new tenant.

The Middle school planned near Bee Creek Rd is being delayed by the HOA of Travis Settlement until they are sure of there will be no pollution of the nearby creek.  They are asking County Commissioners Court to grant a delay until assurances are made.

There is still strong opposition to the Covert Dealership plans on Hwy 71.  Some members of the protest group are angry with the Galleria for allowing Covert cars to be on display in the Galleria.

More as it happens!  Thanks again for all the support on the blog!  Sign up for email by sending a note to lakeway@bain.us and I'll be sure to get you on the list!
