Area Happenings!

The Village of The Hills Board of Aldermen will conduct a public hearing and consider action at it's August 12th regular meeting on the City of Lakeway's request for them to release the Villas of The Hills subdivision from their ETJ. The meeting will start at 8:30 AM. If the Villas were released, the City of Lakeway has stated an intent to annex this area.

It appears the City of Lakeway will be about $200,000 down in tax revenues this budget season because of a reduction in property values. This will make the budget process difficult to say the least.

ZAPCO met Wedneday at their regular time and faced a long agenda! I was unable to attend but here are the results of the two main items.

Item 15 was a request for a Special Use Permit from Todd and Tammy Grovatt to allow use of their home as a day care business - this was turned down by a unanimous vote of the members.

Item 16 was a request from El Paso Medical Group to re-zone 2.4 acres of Lakeway Airpark South from AV (Aviation) to R-1 (single family residential). This was voted down by a 4 to 2 vote of the members and if sent to Council will carry a recommendation to not approve the zoning change.

Looks like Whole Foods will be opening a 36,000 sq. ft. store in the Galleria in late 2011 or early 2012. It will be located opposite Dick's Sporting Goods near the McDonalds.

In addition, it appears that the Galleria will continue to feed the area residents with 3 more restaurants opening in the near future. Guy Harvey's Tropical Island Grill will feature seafood, at the Fish City Grill location, Buenos Aires Cave will feature Argentinian cuisine, and Wyland's Ocean Blue will feature a surf and turf menu.

It appears that some movement has taken place on the lawsuit between the Lakeway MUD's recently resigned Richard Eason and Board Member Kay Andrews. As soon as I have factual and complete information I will give an update!

Thanks for LOOKING!
