Deer and Humming Birds

Do you now what animal in the US causes the most deaths and property damage? Right! The White Tailed Deer! The City is planning on setting a goal of trapping 125 this year. This is down from previous years - it seems the count is down because of the drought and fewer fawns.

A neighbor came over yesterday with a shoe box - inside was a humming bird that was totally worn out and probably near death. These cute little birds get trapped in garages and buildings because their instincts tell them to fly up to escape. This one had worn himself completely out and fell to the ground. We were able to make sugar water available by putting a drop or two right on the end of his beak. Eventually I could feel his tongue licking at my finger. In about 5 minutes he had found enough energy to fly off. Be kind to our little friends!
