Council Monday, Parks, More CAMPO and More!

Good Morning!  It's another GREAT day in Lakeway.  Fall starts next Thursday and I'm thinking the weather is going to cool off a little soon!

It's been a busy 2 weeks at the City!  We have been working to finalize the budget process, the final work session was held Monday September 12 with no surprises and there will be a final public hearing at the Council Meeting Monday evening.  I expect the final vote will be to accept a new tax rate .01 cent below the "effective" tax rate - this means a tax cut for residents!

Commissioner Daugherty has been working to get some funding for development of the land Lakeway purchased to be used by the LTYA.  So far it looks like he has had some success on finding $1.2M for design - the rest of the process will entail adding monies to a County bond in the future and participation from Bee Cave on the project.  Here is a link to the video of the Budget Mark Up Session - it's long but worth the time to view.

The committee formed to work on a new Police station has been busy also.  They have developed requirements, looked at several sites and have been looking at RFQ's for architects and construction managers and will be interviewing those entities in the near future. The process will be to get enough design information and pricing to educate Lakeway voters and eventually get to the bond process.  They are working hard to make sure we "right size" this project and make sure it is what the City needs.  I really appreciate the committees hard work.

BaylorScott&White is working on a community event for October 1st called the Power of Pink Fashion Show - they will be showcasing local breast cancer survivors and current fighters on the runway.  Here is a link to the flyer.

There will be single-lane closures in both directions on Hwy. 71 Sunday through Thursday from 8PM to 5AM - I would avoid this area if possible until the resurfacing is done.  Here is a link to the flyer.

Don't forget to put National Night Out on your calendar for October 4th.  The Police Department will be stopping by the gatherings to talk to folks and meet the citizens - let them know if you are having a get together with your neighbors.

We had 29 folks show up to the CAMPO open house last week - more than most but a lower turn out then I had hoped for.  If you were there you would have noticed there is NO plan for Western Travis County to improve congestion in the 40 year plan.  TxDOT has been able to get the 620 road widening project on the schedule but NO planning is going on for the long term future.  You can visit the online open house at this link - please send an email comment telling CAMPO that you want future planning for our area to be included in the 2040-2045 plan - if we don't get involved we won't get the help we need!

Paving started yesterday (Friday) on Flint Rock Road!  The Western end of the project from Serene Hills Drive to Loadstone is included.  This should make travel in this section of the road much safer - the speed limit will remain at 30MPH - it is still a construction zone!

Council meets Monday evening - here is that agenda.  It is a long agenda but I see no controversial issues - we will adopt the budget and tax rate, and will consider SUP's, some Plans, Zoning and Annexation Requests.  Council will also go into Executive Session for an update from attorneys on the Cherry Knoll lawsuit.  Hope to see you there!

Staff met with LTISD to discuss a new elementary school on Bee Creek Road in the Lakeway Highlands subdivision.

Municipal Court reports that we had one night court on Tuesday with Judge Brown presiding.  Thirty-six defendants came to contest 46 pending cases.  Four failed to appear, resulting in warrants issued for their arrest.

Public Works reported that crews removed a partial section of barbed wire fence at the creek that runs under Clara Van.  They also cleaned up all the debris that was collecting along the fence line.   A separate crew worked on smoothing out sections of the dirt roads on Barrie Dr. and Warbler.  Lone Star Paving was out to look at a couple of bad areas on Lakeway Blvd, specifically at the Hills Dr.  They will return in the next few weeks to mill that section and replace with new asphalt.

The Dragon Park Restroom should have been set on Friday and next week the plumbing and electricity is scheduled to be hooked up.  It should be open on Friday September 30.

The case was transferred to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.

The Lakeway Police Department was awarded a 2006 Subaru Impreza following a civil forfeiture trial which stemmed from a felony narcotics seizure and arrest. Based on the inter-local agreement with the Travis County District Attorney’s Office, the vehicle will be auctioned and the proceeds spilt 50/50 between the agencies.
