It appears that Travis County made an error in the "Certification of Appraised Values" for our City tax rolls! This means our budget hearings and work sessions will be put off and re-scheduled. Normally our tax rate and budget is adopted by October 1st, however this year it might be slightly later.
As reported earlier, several dead and dying trees have been removed along Lakeway Blvd. None were infected with Oak Wilt. Two larger trees will be removed by a contractor in the near future.
Decals will be applied to the new police cars starting Monday and soon after we will be rotating the oldest cars in and moving the equipment to the new cars. I'm sure our officers will appreciate the new rides!
We are expecting building permit applications soon for a new Holiday Inn Express at RR 620 and Oak Grove.
Thanks for looking!

102 Blue Jay Update / Tank
Looks like the Fire Marshall is doing a major investigation on the fire at 102 Blue Jay. At least 10 cars have been there all day.Work is proceeding at the water tank on Lohmans. There are mock ups of pilasters/arches now leaning against the new water tank near the small parking area.
If you want email of posts to the blog, send me an email and I will include you on the list!

This Week in Lakeway
The Police have a GREAT job saving money and 5 new patrol cars are on order - GOOD JOB! Should be delivered in a couple of weeks, I know the officers will be happy.
City Staff is drafting an ordinance to follow a State law that will enable legal use of Golf Carts on city streets. They will be legal on streets posted for 30MPH or less and will be required to have some equipment including lights and mirrors. It is my understanding that a driver's license will be required.
Have you noticed the dead and dying trees on Lakeway Blvd? The City Manager and Carrie Burns (Forester) went out and selected those that will be removed - some replacement trees will be planted also.
The planning department has received a conceptual plan for a Holiday Inn at the SW corner of Oak Grove and RR 620. Detail will follow as we get them.
No more rain today but it appears we received around an inch in the last 3 days. Hope everyone has a GREAT weekend!

Lakeway MUD Tank
Richard Eason, General Manager of Lakeway MUD says there have been some delays because of changes to the rock work and berms around the tank. Work will probably be complete by the end of August. The colors will be slightly different and the arches will be 3 dimensional. On another water note, we are currently in a mild drought according to the LCRA. If the lake gets a little lower we will move to a moderate drought condition. The LCRA will request mandatory restriction on lawn watering. Hope for a BIG rain.

Council Meeting + Rain
We had a rain storm right when the Council Meeting was to start, but nobody complained!
The City received a check from Pedernales Electric for about $33K for our franchise fee. We voted to sign agreements pertaining to our legal services, we authorized coordination of emergency services with Travis County, we adopted a revised Solicitation Ordinance to update the existing 20 year old ordinance - it will include a "no visit" list that will be supplied to solicitors and we reinstated part of the Building Ordinance to require foundation plantings at the rear of houses on the golf courses.
Dave Vories was appointed as Member to the City Building Commission and Herb Eddy and Jim Powell were appointed as Alternate Members! Congratulations!
Barbara Beebe was appointed Member of the Board of Adjustment and Bill Gilbert was appointed Alternate - congratulations to you also.
More to come soon!

Weekly Update

We had a house fire at 102 Blue Jay in the early morning of July 16th. There was significant damage and it appears the fire started in the attic. For a larger view, click on the picture.
Many questions from residents about what is going on with the Exxon station at Lohmans and Lakeway Blvd. The city has very little information on the status. Any new business will probably require a special use permit so the city will have some input as to what goes there.
We are planning to put sign posts up at the entrances to The Ridge at Alta Vista, and possibly The Preserve. These will enable advertising of City events and hopefully help residents stay informed of happenings around the city.
More to come soon! I am new at this!
